Taylor Technology Campus (BigWatt/Powerhouse) are one of the 17 data centers that have been permitted despite Governor Abbott directing TCEQ to halt permits in relation to data centers development. This tracks with the fast pace City Council and staff have pushed through the development plan- agreeing to decibels, set backs, utility services. Council approved the development plan a mere 3 business days before the Digital Infrastructure amendments to the comprehensive plan came before Planning & Zoning. Why are we rushing this project? Why are we pushing a Data Center & Gas Power Plant through BEFORE the citizen advised regulations are passed?!? Why is the city allowing corporations to push through when state level says pause? New Jersey needs a statewide moratorium on AI data centers NOW. Across our state, communities are fighting back against massive data centers threatening to drive up electricity bills, strain our water resources, increase air pollution, and disrupt residential neighborhoods. Over 100 towns have taken action, but we cannot leave communities to fight these multibillion-dollar corporations alone. A massive AI data center could be coming to Bell Works in Holmdel just steps away from people’s homes. Despite Holmdel passing an ordinance banning data centers, this project could still move forward because its application was submitted before the ban took effect. Residents could be left dealing with constant noise, air pollution from diesel generators, increased pressure on our energy grid, and threats to nearby waterways. Holmdel residents deserve clean air, safe drinking water, and a say in what gets built in their neighborhoods. But we can still stop this project.
