This week we honor Elsa Collins, a woman whose work reflects compassion, purpose, and a deep commitment to community. Elsa has dedicated her career to building spaces that uplift voices, inspire action, and bring people together.

With This Is About Humanity, she supports families at the United States and Mexico border by raising awareness, providing essential resources, and reminding us of the power of human connection. Through Poderistas, she helped create a platform that celebrates Latina identity and encourages civic participation with pride and confidence. With The Ideateur, she brings strategy and meaningful guidance to organizations focused on social impact, shaping work that centers humanity and long-term change.

Elsa’s leadership is grounded in empathy and intention. Her efforts reflect the belief that community thrives when we choose to serve with love and when we use our voices to stand for others.

At Friends of Julie, we honor Elsa for her dedication to creating a world built on connection, understanding, and collective care.

I volunteered with @thisisabouthumanity for a day of service. We were able to deliver food that was cooked in our kitchen opened in partnership with @icfdn and @fundaciontijuanasinhambre who are there every day and provide 2000 meals a day. We replaced sheets at one of our partner shelters, giving families a clean new bed.
We were able to bring music and dancing, toys, and beauty supplies. These families are escaping often dangerous situations in their home country and the ability to bring laughter and smiles was special.
We were lucky to have our partners Lindsay Toczlowski and @immdef_lawcenter on this trip to help us understand what changes need to happen to protect asylum.
Thank you to our bus sponsor @sb_projects @scooterbraun for enabling this day to happen.
#ThisisAboutHumanity #movimientojuventud Get Involved

Reach out if you would like to think of new ways to get involved. Just through the trip today we were able to already raise the money to build a second story at the Caritas shelter and find a sponsor fore

We have also had people do birthday fundraisers for specific items needed at shelters.

If you are interested in getting more involved, please let us know.

#WCW today is Chingona Activist @elsamariecollins Elsa was born in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University and her J.D. from Columbia Law School. Her list of accomplishments, accolades, endeavors and partnerships is endless, she has dedicated her career to building communities dedicated to helping others. One of the many organizations she has foundied -- follow her & follow her orgs. -- is @thisisabouthumanity which seeks to support both separated and reunified families at the border. This very week she traveled to Tijuana with @thisisabouthumanity also our fav local Chingona @chefclaudiasandoval joined her there as well. They delivered food , they replaced bed sheets at shelters, brought music and dancing, toys, health and beauty supplies to thousands of asylum seekers, families who are escaping often dangerous situations in their home country.
Not only is Collins using This is About Humanity to meet very real, practical needs of the immigrant community, but she’s also using it to educate and inform people about why immigration reform is crucial, and what each of us can do to help. She works with organizations that are on the frontlines of many social concerns in the United States today, including increasing voter registration and participation amongst the Latinx community and other marginalized populations; protecting the undocumented; and promoting racial and religious harmony and gender equality.
Thank you Chingona for everything you do! We are in awe of you #Chingona!

Lucky to have been in the company of thousands of Latina Professional #Chingonas at @lattitudeevent A force to be reckoned with from a wide variety of sectors, as well as listen and watch as the parade of influential speakers and panelists shared their experiences, provided elemental insight, data, accolades, opportunities, mentorship, presentations, etc. Latinas/os/x are responsible for more than half of the U.S. population growth from 2010 to 2020 and more than 65% of the population growth from 2019 to 2020. The economic output of Latinos in 2020 was $2.8 trillion, up from $2.1 trillion in 2015 and $1.7 trillion in 2010. #Chingonas contribute to the U.S. economic growth in terms of wealth creation, businesses formed, homes purchased, products purchased, entertainment and sports consumed, streaming subscriptions, and the list goes on. President @barackobama was keynote speaker at the event and he said, “If you want to make good decisions you have to have as many points of view as possible, because we all have blind spots,And that means, for example, that it’s been shown time and time again that the more women you have on the board, the more successful your company (will be)."
Let's continue to support each other, this is not a competition mi gente, we're in this together!
SOMOS, because together we are Stronger.

Joining us next week is the absolutely extraordinary @elsamariecollins. Elsa is the founder of @theideateur, a social impact and political consulting group that focuses on the sports, art and entertainment sectors. She is also the founding member of @iamavoter, a nonpartisan organization that aims to generate more awareness of voting and civic engagement. Over the past few years, I Am A Voter has been able to gain national recognition for its efforts to increase voter participation in both local, state and national elections.

As the co-founder of @thisisabouthumanity and @poderistas, Elsa has both a passion for and extensive background in humanitarian work and social activism. She received her B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University and her J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Growing up on both sides of the US/Mexico border, Elsa has devoted herself to helping separated and reunited families at the border through her work with This is About Humanity. She also works alongside Eva Longoria, America Ferrera and more on Poderistas, a digital community that focuses on empowering Latina women.

What drew me to Elsa’s story was her profound and inspiring commitment to service and social justice. We’re going to be chatting all about what drew her to service on Wednesday’s episode, and we’ll specifically be diving into her work with This is About Humanity and I am A Voter and how the pandemic has shifted the work and mission of those organizations.

Be sure to tune in Wednesday to learn more. See you then!
