13. CC | @theisleofcc

CC’s creative journey has taken her from dance and performing arts to music and journalism — proving that creativity doesn’t have to exist in just one form.

A defining moment came when she watched Erykah Badu perform Otherside of the Game on her college Mac. It sparked her journey into songwriting and helped shape the sound she wanted to create. In 2017, The Isle of CC was born.

When the creative industry faced uncertainty in 2020, CC found another way to stay connected to music, writing for Wordplay Magazine and championing independent artists who deserved more recognition. By 2021, she had become a director at the magazine.

Today, her journey reflects the power of evolving creatively, finding new ways to contribute and creating opportunities for others along the way.

Just reminding you that Fun House number 1 was probably the smileyest most joyous gig that’s ever existed 🥹

Well for everyone except Mark 💀

We do it allllllll again this Friday! Once again at the wonderful @quarterhouse_uk and once again with a mad house band, incredible performers and banging DJ’s 🪩

Fun is for everyone and that’s the reason our host @justwaitinforaimate does this! She wanted to create a space for the independent artist community to feel safe enough to express themselves to a supportive audience without all the disheartening overheads of a solo gig. And on the flip side, this makes the audience feel like they can enjoy themselves in a safe space! In fact lots of people came on their own last time and felt comfortable enough to dance, sing, shout and enjoyyyyyyyy 🫶

Please grab your tickets asap so you don’t have to pay the highest price on the door anndddd so Aims doesn’t FREAK out about ticket sales like the anxious bean she is 🙃

THE MK HIP HOP VINYL HAS LANDED - GRAB YOURS NOW!

Living Archive’s MK Hip Hop project celebrates Hip Hop culture in Milton Keynes through collaboration with local organisations and creatives.

In common with other UK towns and cities, Hip Hop culture arrived in Milton Keynes in the early 1980s. It was quickly embraced by a handful of pioneering local individuals who began expressing themselves through the culture’s elements of Emceeing, Deejaying, Graffiti Art and Breaking.

There are now several generations of homegrown Hip Hop practitioners in MK, each drawing inspiration from the previous and going on to inspire the next. This groundbreaking vinyl compilation album features a cross section of Milton Keynes Hip Hop music from across the years.

Track listing:

2026 Roundabouts - Seek Wiz-dum
2025 Calling My Name - Saje Mode
2026 Heist - The Seven Sentinels
2026 One Time - The Isle of CC
2021 Early Data - Captain Krunch
2012 Assemble - Zaheer
2007 Milton Keynes - J Hurley
2005 Head Nod - Marvellous Flows
1995 Positive Freestylin’ - Phase 4

In this new Music Diaries episode, we’re embracing growth and protecting our peace with The Isle of CC.

The Music Diaries is an original reel series through which I aspire to shine a light on independent artists that I love, whether I work with them or not. The goal is to promote their art in an intimate and thought-provoking way, while letting you in their little cocoon. The Music Diaries is a reflection on their current state of mind, their dreams, their ✨WHY✨.

Blending neo-soul, alternative R&B & electronica, @theisleofcc has long been a passionate advocate for the independent music community. We actually met through my work as a music publicist while they were working as a journalist, so it’s been incredibly special to watch them step to the other side of the mirror and share their own stories with the world after spending so much time championing everyone else’s. If you’ve ever crossed paths with CC, you’ll know that’s simply who they are: someone constantly uplifting others, sharing opportunities & making the creative community feel a little more connected 🫂.

While I went for the intimate Cozy for the background music of this reel, I invite you to check out their latest single, hate2say, a powerful anthem for anyone who’s ever been made to feel like they should shrink themselves to fit in. It’s about refusing to dim your light despite the noise around you — something that beautifully echoes today’s reflection. As they navigate this new chapter of life (Saturn return hello - I love my fellow Astrology lovers 🌙!), embracing their genderfluid identity and letting go of what no longer serves them, they’re choosing to protect their peace, pick their battles wisely & allow those shifts to naturally seep into their music. And I, for one, can’t wait to hear all the goodness that comes from it!

Independent artists, what have you outgrown recently & how has letting it go changed the way you create?

For our Pride Month spotlight series, we’re proud to feature The Isle Of CC ( @theisleofcc ) — a music artist and magazine director whose passion for creativity extends far beyond their own work 🎶

Blending neo-soul, alternative R&B, and electronica, The Isle Of CC creates music rooted in storytelling and lived experience while also dedicating countless hours to uplifting independent artists. Through radio, journalism, editorial work, and community advocacy, they’ve helped emerging musicians, photographers, and writers gain visibility and opportunities to grow 🌍

Their philosophy is simple: if you want a creative community to thrive, you have to show up and support it 🔥

When reflecting on being part of the LGBTQ+ community in music, they emphasized the importance of visibility:

> “We are here to stay, and we are free.”

Thank you, The Isle Of CC, for using your platform to build community and for reminding us that supporting others is one of the most powerful forms of artistry 🫂
