I am still not quite over the high I felt on Monday from heading up to Albany with my colleagues from #NYRAC for our first lobbying day to meet with Senators and Assembly Members to discuss issues that are of tremendous importance to the brokerage community and in the interest of protecting the consumer. It was an enlightening day to say the least. I learned so much from the day, but the most important take away was that if one wants to see change happen, one needs to show up. We must be persistent, get loud, and not expect others to do this work for us. I was so honored to be a part of this unbelievably talented group of professionals, and I look forward to our next trip up. @newyork_rac

Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to Albany, NY amongst a few other amazing people. Together we came together to discuss a few issues that have been concerning in our industry. We were able to speak to many politician and make our voices heard. Funny how when a few people gather together what a world of a difference it can make. Thank you to @jongreenspun for leading us yesterday! More in my stories.

This Monday, February 10th, 2020, a group of 12 agents from @NewYork_RAC took a day-trip to the State Capitol to address important issues affecting our consumers and our profession! Here are a few things we learned (echoed from @TheLeonardSteinbergTeam's Morning Memo):⁠⠀
⁠⠀
👋 YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP. Whining and complaining about politics is useless. Sometimes you must roll up your sleeves and get involved and make an impact. You have to make time for the issues you care about and put in the effort to get the attention of policymakers. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
🗣️ THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE: without fail, every politician said they listen to the loudest, most consistent voices.⁠⠀
You have to be looking out for the GREATER GOOD. Yes, some special-interest lobbyists succeed in catering to their own hyper-localized issues, but politicians care most about pleasing the majority of voters.⁠⠀
Rehearse your message and BE CLEAR about what you want, and ASK how the politicians plan to address your concerns.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
🤳 MAKE YOUR CONCERNS PUBLIC. A letter is easily filed or thrown away, as is an e-mail... A tweet or social media post tagging specific politicians cannot be ignored as easily.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
🔢 NUMBERS COUNT. 10-15 personal stories can make a difference. But several hundred or thousand voices will get real attention. And action. ⁠⠀
Politicians are very good at making you feel like you've been heard, and that they really care. Don't rely on words and promises, ASK FOR ACTION.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
😃 DON'T RELY ON 'OTHERS' TO SPEAK ON YOUR BEHALF. Most times they have other interests at heart.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
🏛️ POLITICIANS LISTEN CLOSEST TO THEIR CONSTITUENTS. They want to succeed and be re-elected.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
⭐ HIRE A LOBBYIST (or get involved with an organization that does). Without @JonGreenspun, we would never have been able to as effectively identify whom to meet with and how. This lobbyist acted like a great agent and we all know how important a good agent is!⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Government CAN work, but only if we are part of the process. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
And, how many of you can say that you've seen the incredible Gothic Revival architecture on view at the State Capitol? WE CAN!⁠⠀
