Took my second class at @thejamclt (Pride themed this time 🌈💃🏻) and so thrilled to have found another authentic, badass community that is 💯 inclusive of color, body size, gender & sexuality, athletic ability, dance prowess (or lack thereof 😂), you-name-it, etc! Just show up as you are, and you’re already part of the family!!!

Still thinking about Sara’s Pink Takeover! 💕🎀💃🏻

CBF board chair @sarajbremer teamed up with Big Wig Melissa to bring this event to life, raising funds for Melissa’s Wiggin’ Out campaign and supporting the free programs at The Pink House! 💗

Huge thank you to @thejamclt, @properflower, and @hopflybrewingco for hosting such a fun and meaningful night and to everyone who showed up, danced, and donated!

This is what community looks like! 💞

Share your intel, Kinesthetes! What is your favorite way to move for joy in the 704?

My personal kinesthetic play tendencies are strongly linked to my Explorer play personality. I love to learn how to do something new or novel with my body, and I love to explore new places and sensory experiences. But I also have a really weird immune system, a deeply complicated nervous system (in both a physical and emotional sense), janky connective tissue, and a vestibular system that should probably be studied 🙃😵‍💫, so. Sometimes, movement is a relief or a burden for me, rather than a joy.

As a kid (a tall kid with long legs), my favorite sport was BEING FASTER THAN THE BOYS. 🏃🏼‍♀️ (My Competitor play personality peaked in second grade. 😂)

As an older kid and young adult, I was a dancer. Some jazz, some Broadway, some hip-hop, some modern, some swing, and the tiiiniest bit of tap and ballet. It was a very sampler platter situation, and I’m both a better dancer than most people expect of my nerdy ass, while also not at all impressive, which is fine with me. 😂 I’m really fun at a wedding reception or a silent disco, and that’s what matters. 🥰

As a middle-aged adult, my favorite physical activity is “I moved my body deliberately for at least an hour today and enjoyed it,” and that’s enough for me, tbh. I do still love a dance class, a deep stretch, and almost anything weird. Put me on a bungee or in a bounce house any day. (Well… Any day that my wonky vestibular system will consent to it. 🥹)

I aspire to be a person who can pick up and put down heavy things, but only in a functional, injury-prevention, bone-density kind if way. Strength training and chiropractic care both help me manage my movement disorder, and I eagerly anticipate getting over the shingles, the ear infection, and the cocktail of necessary unpleasantries that are helping me overcome them so that I can get back to that. 😬

What kind of active play do you enjoy? Has it changed throughout your life? Tell us everything in the comments!

This year, I learned how to be a small business owner and how to exfoliate without making my eczema flare 😂, all while also facilitating an afterschool elementary STEAM program that you don’t get to see on the internet. What’s something you’re proud of this year? (Survival is a more than valid answer. 😘)
