JAY-Z paid tribute to Nipsey Hussle during his sold-out show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on October 23, rocking an All Money In chain while performing “On To The Next One” over the instrumental from Nipsey’s “Last Time That I Checc’d.” Earlier in the night, Hov brought Nipsey’s “Hussle & Motivate” into his performance of “Hard Knock Life,” with Nipsey appearing on the stadium screen. The show was part of JAY-Z’s 30th anniversary celebration of his debut album Reasonable Doubt.

Hov’s been supporting Nipsey since long before his passing. Back in October 2013, Nipsey released his Crenshaw mixtape through his Proud2Pay campaign, selling 1,000 physical copies for $100 each while making the music available for free online. JAY-Z purchased 100 copies himself for $10,000, publicly supporting Nipsey’s independent business model. All 1,000 copies sold out in less than 24 hours, bringing in $100,000 and making headlines across the music industry.

Their connection eventually led to “What It Feels Like,” their first official collaboration, released in February 2021 on the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack. It was revealed that JAY-Z donated his entire fee from the song, splitting it between Nipsey’s estate and the Hampton House, the childhood home of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton. More than 13 years after that original $10K gesture, Hov brought Nipsey’s music back to the stage in his hometown of LA. 🏁💙
