POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Was able to go to this open mic, story time event. Lots of fun and some good and thoughtful stories. Will try and bring somebody with me next time. Also testing out my new 10yr old Leica for fun.

Feel free to tag and share the people in the photos if possible, thanks.

Joy of Resistance exhibit has been extended for two more weekends! A small group of local artists responded to this very important show, curated by our own @thejemalshow. This was the last exhibit that featured beautiful art by Eliseo Rosales, who sadly passed away few weeks ago. Please be sure to stop by and experience everyone’s art in person before it closes September 12. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 10-2, @visualphilosophystudio in historic Alameda district, San José 💙

👄✨This past weekend started off with the opening of Natasha & Jonathan’s show CONNECTED with FUSE Presents. It was gorgeous and dreamy & also we were treated to the sweet sounds of Eve’s Heaven 🎼

👄✨I showed a very early painting from the Parallel Universe series

It reflects on the common ground we all share, no matter how far the divide may be.

💎✨The next day was the opening of JOY OF RESISTANCE beautifully curated by the one and only Jemal Diamond. Hope you get to experience this joyful exhibit:

💎✨I’m showing a painting from my Flashback series, which focuses on pop culture that has shaped my Gen X generation. The Golden Girls were progressive in the 80s, women in their 50s not at the slowing of their lives but at a new beginning, full of laughter ✨

✨✨✨Loved seeing so many friends this weekend & I was inspired by artwork & conversations, grateful🩵✨✨✨

All last week I haven’t really been outside, haven’t been on nature walks, haven’t had any time to myself... But it’s all been worth it!!! All the inspiration, all the art, music, and creativity I’ve been surrounded by over these past few days has been incredible. I met so many people, had so many meaningful conversations, and have experienced deep connections that will keep me inspired for years to come. The 2-artist Connected exhibition may be over but my heart is full. Thank you to each and every one of you for making this truly magical 💙💙💙

Thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support for my piece "Solace" in #joyofresistance at @visualphilosophystudio creating art is one thing, showing it is definitely a whole feat unto itself, so thank you for your encouragement of my work. ❤️ A special thanks to @thejemalshow for his hard work in curating this wonderful show.

Paper flowers are a traditional creation used in demonstration of pride, resistance of oppression and in celebration of life and defiance of grief. They serve us in this dichotomy of existence, embracing everything it means to not just persevere, but also celebrate in the face of adversity. We present them to lovers, give them to our mother's, use them to apologize, and even in the case of the Pansy Patrol, hold them aloft to drown out anti-gay, anti-abortion protesters and to protect the disenfranchised and vulnerable.

How can something so temporal, so delicate, be so strong for us?

Last year, I created a large selection of paper flowers and marched with them in the gay pride parade, we then took those flowers and burned them at the temple at Burning Man to honor the passing of our studio dog and fur baby Jasper. Now we will honor our studio dog and fur baby Edwin who passed this year the same way. We have built these big beautiful paper flowers for him, and will burn them under the moon, a last stand and resistance to grief and an expression of love and JOY!

A special thank you to artist @im_dustin_meyer without whom this installation would not be possible.

Details below:

RP:@thejemalshow PLEASE JOIN US for the opening reception of JOY OF RESISTANCE a group art show!

I am inspired by the creativity in resistance that has poured out into our streets. I am motivated by the frog and unicorn blow-up costumes, the dance parties, bubbles flowina from overpasses, murals, gay drum parades, sing-alongs, and insanely creative protest sians. We celebrate this tool crucial to our survival in these times. Joy is the most powerful force aqainst tyranny.

It’s going to be an amazing weekend! Start by visiting @flotsamman and my Connected exhibit at the Citadel! Opening night is this Friday, August 7, from 5-9pm. We’ll have the incredible @_evesheaven_ playing a double session, you won’t want to miss it! The show will be open on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Then take a stroll through the @artwalksj on First street and finish at @workssanjose at the Hold Fast members exhibit.

And on Saturday, stop by the Joy of Resistance show @visualphilosophystudio, thoughtfully curated by @thejemalshow!

With so much pain, so much grief and uncertainty in the world, art has the power to connect, uplift and inspire humanity — we need it now more than ever. Can’t wait to share it all with you this weekend! 💙
