After 50 years of neglect by the @usfws our beloved Florida manatees and Antillean manatees of Puerto Rico will, as of Sept 2025 have an updated plan to attempt to protect critical habitat “essential to the recovery of the threatened species.” Thank you @centerforbiodiv @defendersofwildlife @savethemanateeclub for bringing attention to the mass mortality starvation crisis and petitioning the FWS to wake up after we’ve lost nearly half our population of manatees in the last 4 years due to pollution causing starvation. By October this year alone over 400 have starved to death, including 130 calves. I understand protecting 1 million acres of unconnected pockets rather than a whole sanctuary isn’t ideal, but it is at least a hopeful something and a start. As a Florida Native, I’m grateful for the awareness this updated plan will hopefully awaken 🙏 Please be mindful to respect at least 30ft of manatees space allowing them to move freely and never intentionally touch them, unless you are happy to pay 100k in fines and spend a little time in an orange jump suit. If a manatee approaches, just pretend you’re an opossum (play dead) and the floaty potato 🥔 will do what they do and float on by 🥰💛 @penetratorfins #florida #lovefl #home #manatee #lookdonttouch #endangered #threatened #love #loveflorida #freedive #savethemanatees mwozniak@floridaweekly.com visit the sea goddess @thekinigirl for a beautiful manatee bathing suit 🔥#makomask #ballast @floridaspringscouncil @flspringspassport

During my pregnancy I didn’t know the sex of my baby. So when I met her for the first time I said “I made a girl!” with so much excitement. I hope she likes making flower leis and dancing so that I can share that part of me with her🥰 📷: @kelsealoha
