The NHS, supported by Health Secretary Wes Streeting, continues to go along with the wishes of a tiny group of hardline anti-trans campaigners by pushing through major restrictions on gender-affirming care for trans children and young people.

This includes ending the routine prescription of puberty blockers and gender-affirming hormone treatments for under-18s, capping and eventually pausing the trial into puberty blockers following a letter from a regulator with known anti-trans views, and issuing new guidance to GPs advising them to reconsider their shared care agreements with non-NHS providers. These actions are framed as a response to potential ‘harms’, yet the well-evidenced harms of denying gender-affirming care continue to go unacknowledged.

For those of us in the trans community, recent years have been punctuated by funerals and memorials for loved ones we have lost. We have seen firsthand the serious impact of the rise in anti-trans hostility - and the associated rollbacks in our long-held rights.

We have had enough. TransActual and nine organisations working directly with trans children and young people across the UK have signed a collective letter to the Health Secretary and NHS commissioners highlighting the impacts of these policy changes on the young people they work with and calling for an end to the rollbacks on gender-affirming care for under-18s. The LGBTQ+ sector urges the Health Secretary and NHS to reverse course immediately and affirm the right of all children and young people to have their voices heard and respected in decisions around their access to healthcare.

‼️This is important

Keeping Children Safe In Education (KSCIE) is a legal document, written by @educationgovuk and updated yearly. It sets out the laws surrounding child protection in education settings, and must be read by all education staff each September.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The draft of KCSIE 2026 has been published, and contains some worrying updates for trans students. Primarily, the document no longer refers to trans and non-binary students as such, but as ‘gender-questioning’ - essentially stating that T&NB students are not valid and are only ‘questioning’.

It’s also super important to realise that these new rules, whilst they do apply to young primary ages children, will apply to education settings up to age 18. That means a trans student in a sixth form aged 16-18 will also be subject to these rules.

The groups @thekitetrust @allsortsyouth and @the_proud_trust have created some fantastic guides on how this new legislation will affect trans youth and I encourage you to look at this. I also encourage you to contact bridgetphillipsonmp and your own MP (link in my bio to find this) as this is the best way to oppose oppressive legislation like this.

And now I brace for the replies from the transphobes in my comments 😂😭
