Colgate Advocates for 2023!

Really excited privileged to be an ongoing part of the Colgate family, and to be part of this diverse group of clinicians who, although we all have various passions within dentistry, to share the same goal to promote and better oral health 💪🏼💪🏼

Great to meet up after years of lockdowns and virtual meets!

Thank you so much to Colgate for your ongoing support of the team, and a special thanks to Sue Cartwright and Amelia Seselja for bringing us all together again 🫶🏻

Episode 26. The wellbeing lesson you WISH you had at dental school with Kaejenn Tchia @thelimitlessdentist

I know the feeling. Sometimes there are days where you question if dentistry was the right choice for you or you’re feeling overwhelmed with the pressures of being a dental student new graduate clinician or you’re working in an environment you know is not aligning with your values or ethics.

The good news is, there are mindful ways to conquer these and practical changes you can make to channel these challenges for the better.

In this episode, Emma is joined by The Limitless Dentist, Kaejenn Tchia, a dentist and mental wellbeing advocate, to talk about what burnout is, how you can avoid it and the steps you can do (starting now!) to take better care of yourself outside of the clinic so you can show up as the best professional you can be for your patients and your team.

Kaejenn is also a mental health advocate and Treasurer of the NT branch of the Australian Dental Association and he packs so much actionable information in this episode - you’ll want to listen twice.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that this episode is one of the best Talk Dental to Me episodes to be released and one EVERY dental professional no matter what speciality needs to hear. I strive to provide our community with the most impactful advice I possibly can. I promise, this one really stacks up.

Listen in as Kaejenn unlocks the secrets to confidence, authenticity and authority that ultimately lead to your better wellbeing as a dental professional - don’t be afraid to pause and take notes!

HIGHLIGHTS:

- What you NEED to identify for yourself to help avoid burnout
- Why it is important to get comfortable with saying NO
- HOW you can say no
- How to choose the BEST person in management to speak to if you are feeling overwhelmed
- Why “work life balance” is impossible and what you should aim for instead

Balancing work, life and family is hard. Just because it looks like someone has it all together doesn’t mean they do.

Be kind to others. Everyone has their own journey and their own unique goal. Don’t compare yourself to others. Just do the best you can and ignore the noise, get a mentor and let your work speak for itself. Compare and grow against yourself and not others.

DIET! It can be just as important as how well our patient’s brush or floss their teeth.

Things like how you drink your coffee, whether to brush just after having something acidic, and certain health fads can affect how much a patient is at risk for dental decay and acid wear.

Please have a read of my short article where I discuss common scenarios and how we can potentially help our patients modify their dietary habits to limit harm to their teeth!
