🎸 Relive the Dallas Music Scene in the 90s | Deep Ellum

Step back in time to the heady days of the Dallas music scene with a new exhibit titled Behind the Music: 90s, celebrating the history and unforgettable moments of Deep Ellum’s legendary live music venues — Club Dada, Trees, and Lizard Lounge.

Before feeds and filters, Deep Ellum ran on word of mouth, packed rooms, and flyers taped to every corner. This exhibit captures the energy, the music, and the culture of a time when shows were discovered the old-fashioned way: a flyer on a telephone pole, a tip from a friend, or even one in the mail.

💥 Relive memories and stories from local and touring acts like Tripping Daisy, The Toadies, Hagfish, and Billy Goat, and see the artwork that defined the venues — including the iconic masks by Dwayne Carter that became a symbol of Club Dada’s unforgettable vibe.

On display at the Deep Ellum Community Center
🗓 March 13 – June 2026 | Wed–Sun | Noon–7pm
📍 2528 Elm Street, Suite A | Dallas, TX
👉 deepelluminfo.com | Link in bio

Relive the sounds and spirit that shaped an unforgettable era of Deep Ellum music.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past!!! Unfortunately I did not have the foresight to collect flyers for the parties I played back then, so I was quite surprised and got the warm and fuzzies when my good friend John Baugh (good looking out @baughshank_ ) tagged me in these photos. This very well could have been the first of many times I would play the main room of the world famous Lizard Lounge, and I was honored to be part of such a STACKED lineup!!! My good friend Jimmy Johnson who DJed under the name Stymi put this party on. Jimmy and I both started out in the same crew (Audio Evolution) where we had a monthly at a spot on the corner of Commerce and Pryor (where Ruins is now) called Sandbar (IYKYK). The theme of this party was to bring together the best talent representing all genres on one lineup, under one roof. He threw a follow up to this party called “Come Together 2” which I was fortunate to be included in that one as well. I’d be very interested to see that flyer as well if it’s floating around out there.

“YOU CAN MAKE IT LOUDER”

In the summer of 1992, @thelizardlounge did a series of free concerts on Sunday nights. It was this legendary night when @Moby played not one, but two shows. Lizard Lounge owner @DNedler recalled “there were 1,000 people inside and 1,000 people in line. Moby came in to do a soundcheck, saw the big line, and he knew we couldn’t fit 2,000 people inside. He said, “Why don’t we just do two shows?” So we did. It’s still one of the most memorable things we ever did here.” Check out the audio from that night, recorded straight from the board, featuring BOTH shows. You can also hear Nedler addressing the crowd size between the shows. 🎧 link in stories.

Hard to believe it’s been six years since the #KeithFlint tribute at @thelizardlounge. We honored the late frontman of @theprodigyofficial with a rare reunion of #Edgeclub94 DJs. Respect to @dnedler for pulling it together, just like we did back in ‘92. #RIPKeithFlint #Flinty #TheProdigy #Firestarter #RaveOn
