Judges 18 / Thursday, August 17th, 2023 / NKJV

The tribe of Dan had land apportioned to them, but they found their own land too hard to conquer. Looking for easier land to conquer and make their own, the Danites came to the land of the tribe of Ephraim and the house of Micah. It may be that the spies from the tribe of Dan knew the renegade Levite (Micah) personally. It is also possible that they simply recognized his accent as being from the southern part of Judea. 🤔

Look at how confusing these times in Judges were: These Danites on a sinful mission met with a sinful Levite and wanted to know from a righteous God if their mission would be successful. Then the sinful Levite sent the sinning men on their way with God’s blessing.
This was a strange combination of low morality and strong religious feeling. It was as if someone really wanted to study the Bible – therefore they stole several Bibles. They arrive to a city occupied by the Sidonians- a lawless people. Seeing that the land was good, and the city was not heavily defended, the Danites believed this would be a good city to conquer and take as their own territory. #lazy

✨the priest: “Put your hand over your mouth”, this was a threat. They commanded the Levite to stop objecting or be attacked. The priest was filled with mercenary ambition. The Levite did not care about Micah, only for the pay and status that he might get by being the priest for a whole tribe instead of a mere family.

✨You have taken away my gods which I made: This is powerful irony. Micah had to rescue his own gods. Obviously, his gods should be able to care for themselves. We wonder if Micah saw the foolishness of this. We either worship a god of our own making or we worship the true God who made us. But the gods we make are always less than we are. Idol worship is just another way of worshipping SELF.

This beautiful girl turned 34 today. Not sure how that happened. It seems just yesterday I gave birth to her. There have not been many days in 34 years that I haven't at least talked to or texted her. I hope this next year is everything you want it to be Sweetpea! I love you with all my heart!

Every week we gather at this table. We pray and sing. I touch my son’s heads and I bless them with my husband. We read stories about our faith and we talk about our week.

Every week we break the bread and drink the juice and we remember. We hear His words and we rest in His Truths.

When my boys look back on their memories of our home, my prayer is that these Fridays as a family dedicating ourselves to communion and to His ways will create a foundation for their relationship with Him eternally.
