“Messaging all the way from #Paris. I have a weak immune system and have severe #Asthma, so I wear masks to protect myself from anything respiratory, as it takes me months to recover. Earlier this year, I was hospitalized with COVlD because I needed a machine to help me breathe. Wearing masks has revolutionized my life; I am able to protect myself from having multiple chest infections a year, which happened a lot pre-mask-wearing, and now I’m taking back control of my life. I have only caught COVlD from family members who I live with, because they have refused to wear one.” Behind the N95 respirator is Reena Shah, who moved from UK to Paris recently. Reena is looking forward to meet others in the COVlD-Conscious community in Paris.

Questions for everyone
1️⃣ What do people do in winter especially when going out to restaurants? I’m going to have to adapt my strategy as it gets cold, although I have heard there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!
2️⃣ I’ve got a lot of hate for wearing masks and for continuing to sanitize, particularly from family, some of which are in the medical field. How do people manage this if they experienced this?

COVlD level is currently HIGH in the US. Which map would get people to 😷+💉+🔄+👃🏻+🧴? While we deeply appreciate the CDC for launching a new wastewater dashboard for COVlD to provide early warnings, we disagree with the color theme. Tiffany Blue is elegant but doesn't warn Americans of the impending danger: #LongCovid.

One of our tweeted suggestions to @cdc.director made it into Dr. Judy Stone’s article in @forbes .

In ‘CDC Improves Its Covid-19 Reporting With A New Wastewater Dashboard’ Dr. Stone quotes: TogetherWeMask* said, “COVID level is RED Change the color. Representation matters in data communication. Dr. Cohen, our lives are dependent on your awareness efforts. Millions are already suffering from #LongCovid. Add Masks + HEPA to CDC's recommendations. More tools. More protection.” ( *We are TogetherWeMask on X. ) (Link in bio) https://bit.ly/47DUNoh

Our team from #MaskTogetherAmerica appreciates Dr. Stone @drjudystone for pointing out that the monochromatic palette is a “significant error in terms of risk communication” — among other concerns she raised about the dashboard, including poor visibility of state borders in the map and scarcity in data reporting that could misrepresent what’s supposed to be current #SARSCoV2 Wastewater Viral Activity Level. Well, look at #Florida❗

Dr. Mandy Cohen said this tool (which can track COVlD levels in wastewater at the state/regional/country level) can be an early warning that levels of infections may be rising or falling in your community. https://cdc.gov/nwss/index.html”

COVlD is 🔥 in Midwest. Unfortunately, the warning is muted by the color.

The US Air Quality Index uses vivid colors that grab people's attention about the risk of unhealthy air. The palette is appealing & logical. Mask Bloc NYC pointed out that the lack in contrast clearly can’t be meeting the federal standards for accessible electronic communications, section 508. COVlD levels certainly warrant testing with people who have visual impairment. Accessibility matters. COVlD level is currently HIGH in the US. Which map would get people to 😷+💉+🔄+👃🏻+🧴? The CDC map on the left or the one modified for clarity and accessibility with color blind safe vivid color.

Behind every masked portrait we shared is a Hero. We ❤️ you.
You have been a rockstar 🌟 by courageously promoting mitigation measures. More than ever, we need more volunteers to remind people that #covidisnotover and #covidisairborne. We need to use all the tools because more tools mean more protection, especially for the high-risk people. Created in 2020, #masktogetheramerica has become a place for #COVIDConcious individuals and organizations to connect and rally for effective mitigation measures. Today, we share our gratitude to all of you. #HappyThanksgiving Behind every masked portrait we shared is a Hero. We ❤️ you.#masktogetheramerica

“I just went out earlier today because I had to. The air quality even with a respirator on is absolutely disgusting. I’m so grateful for my N95.” Christina reports from #NewYork.

“No one should be outside, healthy or not. Right now is legitimately dangerous. The air quality is approaching maroon level here. It’s past red. You can barely see anything outside.” @christina.auriana is reminding our #masktogetheramerica community in affected states including #Pennsylvania, #Delaware and #Maryland to stay home. Avoid going out and #wearamask if you have to. The Northeastern United States is besieged by #smoke #pollutants from #CanadianWildfires 🔥

Reported by @euronewsnext, Scientists at the University of Tokyo suggest #XBB116 could be about 1.17 to 1.27 times more infectious than XBB.15. It’s now considered a Variant of Interest because of the “Spread of the virus beyond borders” and its potential to escape immunity. It has been detected in 34 countries. It’s rising in the U.S.— responsible for nearly 10% of all reported cases. ( #CDC C19 tracker)

Common Signs of XBB.1.16, also known as Arcturus:
🔺High fever (higher than in previous C19 variants)
🔺Cough
🔺Scratchy throat
🔺Runny nose
🔺Fatigue
🔺Body aches
🔺Headache
🔺Congestion
🔺"Itchy" conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
Conjunctivitis can cause swollen conjunctiva, inflammation of eyelids, itchiness, redness in the eyes and increase tear production and discharge.

#Conjunctivitis can cause some confusion when individuals commonly experience red, itchy eyes due to spring allergies like hay fever, Dr Vipin Vashishtha, a pediatrician and former head of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Immunization warned. But a high fever is an effective way to rule out seasonal allergies.

"We are in a much better situation than we were since the beginning of this pandemic, but the threat isn’t over…We have to remain vigilant". - Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, technical lead for C19 response at the #WHO said.

Concerned about Ending the COVID Emergencies? You are not alone.
#MaskTogetherAmerica stands with people who are marginalized in this pandemic. No one gets left behind. We cannot tolerate cutting funding for research, virus surveillance, preventive measures and treatment in a country where healthcare isn't free for all.
