“Proud of the skin that I’m in”

Maye Star turns one verse into a portrait of pride that asks no permission, naming the trust that broke along the way, the levels his presence raises in every room, and the boundary still standing at the close.

EVER HEARD A SONG THAT KNOWS YOU BETTER THAN MOST PEOPLE DO?

The kind that hits different because you’ve actually lived it. Every lyric feels personal. Every replay takes you somewhere.

That’s what makes music more than just music.

THE VILLAIN EFFECT 🎬

Two creatives who had never crossed paths. One trip to the record store. One record. Endless possibilities.

We linked up with Maye Star and Vinyl Villain, dug through some vinyl, caught a vibe, and let the music do what it does best: bring people together.

No blueprint for what would come out of it. Just fresh chemistry, creative instincts, and a shared love for the sound.

From flipping through records to bringing an idea to life, we got to witness two artists turn a first encounter into something worth remembering.

That’s the energy behind THE VILLAIN EFFECT. Real connections. Raw creativity. Something you can’t script.

Much love to Maye Star and Vinyl Villain for taking this journey with us.

Now who’s next? What producer × artist duo would you want to see in the mix? 👀

THE VILLAIN EFFECT EP. 01 | THE SOURCE — Maye Star × Vinyl Villain

Before the studio, we hit the record store.

Maye Star and Vinyl Villain meet for the first time with one mission: find a record and see where the music takes them.

A little digging, some good conversation, and the beginning of a new creative connection.

A Mass Efx Original Series.

THE VILLAIN EFFECT EP. 02 | HOT CHOCOLATE — Maye Star × Vinyl Villain

Record secured. Back to the studio.

Maye Star and Vinyl Villain head back after a successful dig, getting to know each other along the way. The vibe is settling in, and the session is just getting started.

THE VILLAIN EFFECT EP. 03 | THE FLIP — Maye Star × Vinyl Villain

Description:

Now let’s see what that record can do.

Back in the studio, Vinyl Villain gets to work flipping their vinyl find into something fresh. The sounds start coming together, and the direction of the record begins to take shape.

This is where the digging pays off.

THE VILLAIN EFFECT EP. 04 | LESS IS MORE — Maye Star × Vinyl Villain

Sometimes the simplest ideas hit the hardest.

Maye Star and Vinyl Villain continue building the record, finding the right balance between sound, space, and creativity.

It’s all about knowing what the music needs and what it doesn’t.
