STRENGTH IS A TEAM SPORT. 🇦🇺

Service asks a lot of people.

Long days. Hard decisions. Physical punishment. Mental fatigue. Turning up when you’re absolutely fucking cooked because there’s still a job to do.

We train to be capable. We push ourselves to be better. We take pride in being the person others can rely on.

But being reliable doesn’t mean running yourself into the ground.

Ignoring your own warning signs isn’t toughness. It’s a risk to you and the people counting on you.

Make the call. Take the appointment. Have the hard conversation. Get the support you need.

That isn’t weakness. That’s responsibility.

Strong teams aren’t built on everyone pretending they’re fine. They’re built on people who look after themselves and each other before things go to shit.

That’s what we’re building at The Barracks NT.

A place for serving members, veterans, first responders, families and the wider community to find their people, stay connected and access support.

Not another organisation competing for space. A community bringing people and existing services closer together.

Because being the strongest person in the room means fuck all if you’ve got nothing left to give when your mate needs you.

PUT YOUR MASK ON FIRST.

THEN HELP THE PERSON BESIDE YOU.

SERVICE. TRANSITION. COMMUNITY.

CONNECTION BEFORE CRISIS.

We're supporting @theboxingkanga and his Kokoda trek for @pillars4pilgrims in 2027. So far we've raised $190.

Until 1st November:

All profits from tank top and tees, and $10 from each Dad cap sold will be donated.

Plus, each order gets you in the draw to win one of our flags made right here in Brisbane by @australianflagmakers.
(DM a screenshot of your order confirmation for entry).

Purchase through link in bio.

There’s tired. Then there’s Tully tired.

Soaked through. Legs cooked. Everything hurts. Still another hill, another carry, another task.

Nobody’s feeling particularly inspirational.

You just keep moving. Dig deep. Take the piss when you can. Get your mates through it.

Because sometimes grit isn’t some heroic moment.

It’s being absolutely fucked and getting on with it anyway.

STILL GOT A JOB TO DO.

And it’s a hell of a lot easier when you’ve got good people beside you.

The shared misery. The shit jokes. The experiences nobody else quite understands.

Those connections aren’t built when everything falls apart. They’re built long before, through the hard yards, the ordinary days and everything in between.

So when you hit that hill and you’ve got nothing left, you’re not climbing it alone.

CONNECTION BEFORE CRISIS.

THE JOB IS BRUTAL. THE PEOPLE ARE HUMAN.

We train for violence. We prepare for the worst. We accept that getting it wrong can cost lives.

There’s nothing glamorous about it.

Long days. Shit sleep. Heavy kit. Unforgiving conditions.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, a bunch of ordinary people laughing at something that wouldn’t be funny anywhere else.

That’s the part you remember.

Not always the weapons, the vehicles or the exercises.

The people.

The ones who stood beside you when things got ugly. Who knew when to take the piss and when to shut up. Who made the hardest days bearable.

Defence and first responders know what it means to be expected to handle the worst of things and still go home as ordinary people.

Some do it better than others.

Some carry more than anyone realises.

We’re trained to be hard. That doesn’t mean we’re made of stone.

Look after your people.

CONNECTION BEFORE CRISIS.

📸 A big shoutout to @thementalera for always pulling together absolutely sick shots. 🔥🔥🤝

SAME WORLD. DIFFERENT LENS.

Funny what stays with you.

Sometimes it’s the noise. The urgency. The moments where everything happens at once.

Other times it’s the quiet.

A face. A landscape. A conversation. A place you never expected to find yourself.

The things that seemed insignificant at the time often become the things you remember most.

Spend enough time in uniform and you learn that there’s more than one way to see the world.

You see places most people never will. You meet people whose lives look nothing like your own. You experience moments that are difficult to explain to someone who wasn’t there.

And somewhere along the way, your perspective changes.

It doesn’t necessarily change back when the uniform comes off, either.

That’s what makes photography interesting. Two people can look at the same frame and take away entirely different things. Neither has to be wrong.

Some see the equipment. Others remember the weight of carrying it.

Some see an unfamiliar place. Others recognise a feeling they haven’t thought about in years.

And sometimes a photograph simply reminds you how much of the world exists beyond your own experience.

Outstanding work by @camera.guy.media, capturing the extraordinary, the ordinary and everything in between.

Take your time with this collection. There’s plenty worth noticing.

Which frame made you stop?

A recent study tracked 792 soldiers over 2 years and looked at what was linked to injury, illness and separation from service.

Slower loaded road march times were linked to higher odds of injury, mental health encounters and separation.

300-399 min/week of resistance training had 45% lower odds of injury than under 200.

Poorer sleep quality was linked to higher injury odds.

Higher protein intake was linked to lower musculoskeletal injury odds.

Important: this is an observational study, so these are associations, not proof of cause.

Regardless of your profession, whether it's military, first responder or other LE, build your aerobic base, train strength consistently, and look after your sleep.

THE JUNGLE DOESN’T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOUR COMFORT.

Heat. Humidity. Mud. Kit that never dries. Vegetation thick enough to swallow a section whole.

No shortcuts. No easy reps.

Just the same drills, the same standards, and the same blokes beside you getting it done again and again.

Because when it matters, you don’t rise to the occasion. You fall back on the reps.

Nearly the end of the week. Keep the standard high. Get the work done.

JUNGLE REPS. WARFIGHTER MINDSET.

Outstanding shots from @thedapperdig capturing the work behind the capability. Give the photographer some love.

🇦🇺 CALM IS EARNED.

Stacked on the door.

Heart pounding. Breathing heavy. Sweat running down your face under the helmet.

Your world shrinks to a few metres.

The bloke in front of you. The weight of your weapon. The doorway.

Everything else disappears.

Then you’re moving.

Noise. Shouting. Boots on concrete. Someone calling out from somewhere you can’t see.

Your brain is working a hundred miles an hour, but there’s no time to second guess yourself.

You trust your drills.

More importantly, you trust the people beside you.

Because when things turn to shit, you need to know they’re there.

And that trust didn’t start at the door.

It started months or years earlier. On the range. In the field. During the long nights, the ordinary conversations and the absolutely terrible jokes.

You know when your mate’s struggling. You know when something’s off.

Or at least, you should.

Because if the first time you really look out for someone is when everything’s falling apart, you’ve left it pretty fucking late.

Look after your people long before things go loud.
