1. PND is more than a temporary mood and emotions rollercoaster. It’s a serious mental health condition that may require professional support, this support can look different for each individual. From medication and therapy to mother and baby unit inpatients.

2. PND & PTSD are more common than often thought. Many mums face real challenges. Awareness helps reduce the stigma and encourages seeking help earlier.

3. PND and PTSD are mental health conditions that may not resolve without proper intervention, this can lead to serious conditions. Appropriate professional support and treatment are crucial for recovery.

4. Fathers can also experience PND or PTSD, though it might manifest differently. Acknowledging and supporting fathers’ mental health is vital for the well-being of the entire family. Let’s also support the dad!

Self care and being a parent 💆🏼‍♀️

Before having Ada-Olive I didn’t realise until now but, I had so much time for self-care. 🧖

Fast forward to now and I actually have to mindfully schedule self-care into my week.
The reasons I feel this is SO IMPORTANT for parents…

1. We spend so much time looking after others, if we don’t top us up this can affect our mental health and well-being

2. We deserve to continue to be ‘me’ or find the ‘me’ rather than just being ‘mum/dad/carer’

3. We are human, we actually need it

4. It DOES make our self-esteem and confidence grow

5. We are better versions of the ‘me’ by actively and mindfully focusing on our self-care, mentally and physically.

6. Looking after ourselves can in turn create more positive interactions with our child/ren

So, parents, share the hell outta this reel so we can reach as many parents as possible.

Medication and side effects

I’ve been taking medication for my mental health since my daughter was 5 months old… I was ashamed at first but I am now proud, I have been able to decrease some of my medication and, I’ve taken it to ensure I am doing everything possible to support my recovery journey!

I am now ashamed of how much weight I have put on and, how badly I sweat! It’s VERY BAD!! (Sorry to anyone I see!)

Just two of the side effects that happens to me to ensure my mental health can remain stable, the majority of the time (obviously I have undergone and continue to undergo therapy however, for some people this is not an option!)

Motherhood unfiltered - behind those smiles

I truly believe that every mum should understand what postnatal depression could look like 💚

I believe that if we are armed with the knowledge we would also be armed with ways to support other mums and, potentially ask for help ourselves, without feelings of guilt and shame 💚

Postnatal depression will not cross every mums path, absolutely not, BUT motherhood is difficult in its own way for every mum at one stage or another 💚

We may be superhero’s and wear the motherhood version of a cape BUT, we are not super human or robots and still have thoughts and feelings 🦹🦸‍♀️

I didn't think it could happen to me, but then it did...

I became 1 in 4, then 1 in 100... I've lost 3 pregnancies, as well as carry the pain of losing countless embryos.

They say time heals wounds, but there are so many things that time doesn't heal. Though time allows you to see light again, you never forget the pain, the dates, the what ifs, and the dreams you created for someone you didn't know but loved so much already...

Today we remember...
Those we carried but were gone too soon.
Those born sleeping.
Those taken home, but who've gone to heaven.
And those we dreamt lives for.

Loss is loss.
Pain is pain.

If you're struggling, I see you. I am you.

Know that no matter what type of loss you're grieving, your loss matters, and your pain is valid.
