THE STREET GALLERY IS ONE YEAR OLD. 🎂

A year ago today, I started The Street Gallery at Ropewalk.

One year later, and somehow it feels like I’ve lived about ten years in between. 😂

But look where we are now: Portobello Road.

Still here. Still creating. Still growing.

I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed. Thank you to every artist, collector, supporter, friend, stranger, conversation, purchase, share and bit of encouragement that helped make The Street Gallery happen.

And because birthdays need presents…

30% OFF EVERYTHING, online and offline TILL Thursday 1/10/2026 .

Happy first birthday to The Street Gallery.

The calm before Carnival 🦚 A look at last year’s scenes and this year’s warm-up around the hood.

Over a weekend-long celebration of Caribbean culture, Notting Hill Carnival attracts over a million people of all backgrounds for parades, music, dancing and delicious food.

Here, a visual vocabulary for these vibrant summer days:

MAXIMALISM
An aesthetic of boldness, abundance, and embellishment.

MINIMALISM
A style of spareness and simplicity.

COLOR BLOCKING
The use of bold and bright blocks of color.

FLUORESCENT
Bright and glowing in quality, radiating more light than a surface reflects.

GRAFFITI
Markings of words, symbols, or images made on a public surface.

GRID SYSTEM
Organizes elements using the same underlying units, producing visual consistency and rhythm.

GRADIENT
A gradual change or blending of color.

Visual design principles provide a good foundation for how we tell stories through image. They help us more effectively show what we love, from the everyday slices of life to the more iconic.

Happy Carnival xo

STOLEN FAME ARTIST

MO EL KADEY

Egyptian-British artist, storyteller and founder of The Street Gallery.

Born in Cairo and based in London, Mo El Kadey describes his practice as Primitive Surrealism: bold colours, raw lines, fragmented figures and recurring symbols influenced by Egyptian heritage, street culture, comics, memory and everyday life.

His work mixes humour, chaos and storytelling, exploring identity, belonging, mental noise and the strange contradictions of modern life.

For STOLEN FAME, El Kadey explores how fame can be created, stolen or transformed, and how sometimes the story surrounding an artwork becomes as powerful as the artwork itself.

STOLEN FAME
Friday 21 August
FABAL Beerhall, Druid Street, London

Presented by The Street Gallery in collaboration with Radio Synthesis.

Introducing the Mini Heritage Series.

A growing collection of original A5 artworks, following the same ideas, characters and visual language as my larger work, but created on a smaller, more accessible scale.

I’ve never really believed in prints. I’d rather make something original that someone can actually take home, with every piece slightly different and carrying its own little piece of the story.

Find the Mini Heritage Series at The Street Gallery:

Maida Vale
Thursday & Sunday
10:30am–5:30pm

Portobello Road
at Portobello Art & Stationery
Friday & Saturday
11:30am–6pm

Original art. Smaller format. Still one of one.

Portobello Mini

Introducing Portobello Mini, a new collection of original A5 and A6 artworks.

Each piece begins with a hand-painted fluorescent background, making every artwork completely unique. I then build each composition using my own visual language, inspired by London, Portobello Road, and the stories hidden within the city. Some pieces are finished with reclaimed vintage hardware, adding another layer of texture, history, and character.

The idea is simple: original, affordable, collectible art. A small piece of Portobello that you can take home.

Available now at The Street Gallery, outside Portobello Art & Stationery, Portobello Road.
Open every Friday and Saturday, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
