POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

You have 63 photos from last Christmas.

You have zero recordings of a regular Monday morning.

That's the one they'll want.

The alarm goes off.
You're already awake.

You move through the house in the order you've moved through it a thousand times.

The coffee.
The backpacks.
The permission slip that almost didn't make it.

The way he says good morning before he's fully awake.
The way she argues about breakfast like it's a matter of principle.
The way your youngest finds you in the kitchen and wraps both arms around your waist without saying a word.

You've done this so many times you stopped seeing it.

That's the thing about the mornings that feel ordinary.

They're the ones that become everything the moment they're gone.

Not the Christmas morning with sixty-three photos.
Not the birthday with the video you actually planned.

The Monday.
The coffee.
The arms around your waist before anyone has said a word.

I started recording ours.

Not with a camera set up.
Not with a plan.

Just my phone, catching what was already happening.

Because someday this Monday morning is going to be the one they'd give everything to get back.

What ordinary morning are you still meaning to record? 👇

We started with $45.

No team.
No investors.
No roadmap.

Just a promise I made in a cold neurologist's office that Anthony's voice would survive what Parkinson's is trying to take.

Here's where we are now.

Real beta users.
Real messages being recorded.
Real families who will never have to wonder what their person would have said.

And this June... OpenWhen opens its doors.

For real.
To everyone.

The app is built.
The platform is live.
And in a matter of weeks, you will be able to record a message for the person you love most
and schedule it for the moment they need it most.

The people who have been following this journey — the ones who DM'd us, who shared these posts with someone they love, who sat with this feeling and recognized it — those people get in first.

Before anyone else.
Before we announce it anywhere else.

Something big is coming in June.
And it's yours too.

DM BETA to get early access before we open the doors. 🤍

OpenWhen is where Anthony's voice will live for our kids — long after Parkinson's tries to take it. We're building it for families like ours, and like yours. 🤍

There's a voice in our house at 9:14pm every night.

Different book, same voice.

Anthony in the rocking chair next to our daughter's bed, the lamp on the lowest setting, three kids in three different stages of trying not to fall asleep.

He does the wolf in the three little pigs in this exact growl he's been doing for nine years.

Our middle one mouths the words along with him because she's heard the book a hundred times and doesn't even notice she's doing it.

The youngest is usually halfway gone by the time he gets to the part where the wolf falls down the chimney.

I've heard that voice every night this week. I've heard it every night for the last nine years.

I have zero recordings of it.

Not one.

There's an entire library of audio in this house that lives nowhere but in our heads.
The wolf growl.
The "okay, kiddo" he says when he closes a book.
The way he sings happy birthday off-key on purpose because it makes them laugh.

If something happened, none of that survives.
The love is everywhere in this house.

The recordings aren't.

So this week, from the hallway, I started.

The hallway, because I didn't want to interrupt.
The phone, because that's all I had.
The recording is now seven minutes of Anthony reading to our kids, and it might be the most valuable thing I own. 🤍

What's a voice in your house at 9pm that nobody's ever recorded? Tell me below.

I'm building OpenWhen so the bedtime story voice never gets forgotten and it can live on long after the voice has disappeared. 🤍

If I found out today I had six months, the first message I'd record wouldn't be a life lesson.

It wouldn't be advice for the big moments.

It would be this:
I would record myself saying their names.

Just their names.
The way I say them when everything is okay.
When it's an ordinary morning and I'm calling them down for breakfast.
Not a goodbye.
Just, their names.
In my voice.
Sounding like everything is fine.

Because someday, the sound of their name in my voice on an ordinary morning is going to be the most important sound in the world to them.

That's the first one I'd record.

What's yours?

Drop it in the comments.

OpenWhen is where you record your voice, your presence, and your love, and schedule it to land for the moments that matter most — and all the ordinary ones in between. We're building it for families like ours and like yours. 🤍

There's a list nobody writes down the things a mother does between 6 and 7am to get her kids out the door.
I started counting mine last week and lost track around 27.

Pulling the comforter off the one who never wakes up the first time. Whispering the name of the one who does. Filling water bottles, finding socks, signing the permission slip I forgot. Tying the shoelaces of a kid who can do it himself but is moving too slow. Kissing foreheads, squeezing shoulders, telling the anxious one she's got this even though she swore she wasn't worried.

Twenty-seven small acts of love before anyone has had breakfast.

Here's what I keep thinking about. Twenty years from now, my daughter is going to stand in her own kitchen at 6:47 on a Tuesday, doing the same twenty-seven things for her own kids. And in that exact moment, she's going to want to hear me.

Not the polished version. Not the one in the photos. The version of me at this kitchen counter, doing the boring beautiful work of getting three kids out the door.

That's the version she'll be reaching for.

And it's happening today, with no one recording it. The cadence of "do you have your homework." The way I say their names in the morning. None of it lives outside this house at 6:47am.

Mother's Day doesn't happen on a Sunday. It happens at 6:47am on a Thursday, while a mom is making sure her kids get out the door.

So this week, I started recording mine.

I'm building OpenWhen so the version of me at this kitchen counter actually exists when my kids go looking for it in thirty years. 🤍

What's one of the 27 you do every morning that you'd want your kids to hear someday? Tell me below.

A beta tester sent me a message yesterday and I sat in my car in the Hyvee parking lot for twenty minutes before I could go inside.

She told me she'd recorded her grandmother the last month on OpenWhen (thankful for our beta testers!) Just one recording, sitting at her grandmother's kitchen table on a Saturday afternoon, asking her to tell stories about being seven years old.

Forty-five minutes long, nothing rehearsed. Her grandmother laughed at her own jokes the way she always did.

Her grandmother died on last week.

This is the message that's been making me cry for two days.

The loss is real, and I'm sitting with her family in it. But what I can't stop thinking about is the recording, her grandmother's voice asking what she made for lunch, the laugh nobody knew was the last one.

I keep thinking about the version of her sitting at that table on Saturday with her phone propped against the salt shaker. She didn't know what was coming. Neither did her grandmother. Just two people in a kitchen on a Saturday, and one of them pressed record.

That's the space OpenWhen lives in, the space between last month and this month, where you don't know how much time you have and you press record anyway.

If you've been thinking "someday," someday isn't always there. The recording you make on a Saturday isn't a goodbye, it's the part of them you get to keep.

OpenWhen exists for the families who know what it feels like to reach for a voice that isn't there anymore. Our platform lets you record messages and videos for your loved ones and deliver them exactly when they need them most.

To the woman who sent me that message — thank you. To the rest of you, we're looking for more beta testers for our app, DM LEGACY to test it today. 🤍
