kinda sorta love that i’ve gotten to style thousands of people in pre-owned clothes that ✨help *them* in feel like themselves✨ all while diverting textile waste from ending up in landfills. i started @themwearla 9 years ago as a teen runaway living in little tokyo in dtla just trying to figure out how to survive on my own. i was born visibly disabled (amputee), graduated high school early, needed a job, but couldn’t get a “real job” anywhere. my only income was coming from taking pictures and being an extra in commercials, tv, movies, and music videos. i had a need, i saw a need, and i saw an abundance of unsold clothes at thrift stores headed for landfills and international export. fyi, there’s 90 million tons of textile waste created annually! since 2017, i’ve diverted thousands of pounds of clothing, much of which was unsold merchandise from thrift stores found at the last stop before the landfills aka ✨rag houses and textile recycling centers✨ have you ever been to a rag house?? do you thrift?? #thrifting #resellingclothes #raghouse #upcycling
