In 2024 & 2025 I chose to make myself the priority. That meant planning self-care dates and scheduling solo moments that bring me energy and happiness.

Things I planned and scheduled for were: creative workshops, hiking, gym sessions, Pilates, quiet coffee dates, chiropractic care, long 10K walks, beauty treatments, solo getaways and sauna time.

Sounds like a lot but within a year it really isn’t that much. And that is also why you should plan ahead, life tends to get in the way. And fixed dates work best! This approach has worked incredibly well for me this year, so next year I’m taking it up a notch.

So on the 1st of Jan I will plan my calendar ahead for atleast three months and block workouts and me-time. Creating circumstances that make it easy for me to stick to schedule. It’s like laying your workout clothes out the night before going to the gym.

So make space for yourself in your calendar: schedule ahead and stick to it. Even if it’s just one day a month for a few hours.

I decided to stay in the Netherlands instead during the summer. Thought I’d share some highlights from my staycation with you, maybe you’ll find a little inspiration for your own days off.

I didn’t take a complete break from the gym, hot pilates, reformer, or my daily walks. What I did do was stop doubling up on workouts in a single day.

In line with exercise, I also let go of being strict with eating. I enjoyed every single bite, without going overboard. I never ate until I was 100% full, and I kept balance by mixing in stricter days between dinners or nights out.

One of my favorite simple moments? Grabbing a baguette from @bakkerijkameel sitting with my book, and just enjoying the moment.

I also went exploring in Oud-Zuilen and stopped at a few lovely spots: @stadstuinzuilen and @boerinutrecht Another day I explored with @explore_utrecht_kids where we visited @brasserie_dolcevita with Ibiza vibes, complete with a swimming pool.

There was also room for spontaneity! I met up with Eliane, and we decided to hop from terrace to terrace. We started at Elize, then moved to the terrace at the Oude Hortus at @umu.museum After that, we grabbed food at Ferina and found a cozy spot along the Singel to eat and chat.

Of course, walking and wandering around meant even more steps than usual. One of my stops was @tkoffieboontje where I absolutely loved the new interior. And I treated myself to some colorful holiday nails! One of the absolute highlights was joining the wine tour with @talud9 on the Oudegracht.

A day trip to Den Bosch, where I mixed fancy shopping, culture, and food. I tested a really fun restaurant concept called @localtastenl where you can explore the city’s food scene by visiting multiple spots. To end the day, I had the best ice cream, and we visiting the @designmuseumdenbosch My mom and I had the best time watching the dancing robots!

Together with my mom, I also visited Enschede. And we were both pleasantly surprised! Some highlights were @frankencharlie @houseofsnobs and @frida_enschede

And finally, what is a summer without a night at @theaterfestivaldeparade
