One of the most fascinating parts of the Lincoln Memorial Undercroft experience is the projection show!

Located beneath the Lincoln Memorial, this immersive visual experience uses light, projections, and storytelling to bring the history of this iconic monument to life.

The projections illuminate the massive concrete columns of the Undercroft, transforming the underground space into a unique storytelling experience. It’s incredible to see how technology and history come together in a place that has remained largely hidden from the public for decades.

Definitely something to add to your Washington, D.C. bucket list!

Did you know there’s an entire hidden space underneath the Lincoln Memorial?

One of Washington, DC’s newest attractions is officially open, and it’s something you definitely need to add to your bucket list!

The Lincoln Memorial Undercroft opened June 25, 2026, giving visitors a chance to explore a space that’s been hidden beneath the monument for more than 100 years!

Here’s something fascinating: When the Lincoln Memorial was constructed between 1914 and 1922, the land was originally marshland reclaimed from the Potomac River. Engineers had to build massive concrete foundations to support the monument, creating a cavernous space underneath it.

Now, after a $69 million renovation project, approximately 15,000 square feet have been transformed into an underground museum!

Inside, you’ll discover the massive concrete columns supporting the memorial, interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and immersive presentations exploring the monument’s construction and its role in American history and the Civil Rights Movement.

Which edit do you like better, 1 or 2?

I captured this with an ND6 Filter, so I was able to pull the yellow out of the sun in my 1st edit. In the 2nd edit, I left the sun white. I can't decide which version I like better.

It was fun shooting the sun setting over the Washington Monument from 8.6 miles away. I had it framed for a sun alignment but these birds flew by and I couldn't zoom out quickly enough. I love unexpected photos like these. More photos to come.

Thank you @gordonklau for your awesome plan and bringing us together with @sv_perspective, @lukerandphotography, @vtjawo , @artemcogitatio, @atherahsan. and @vurnisphoto (it was nice meeting you).
