Leadership isn’t about power moves.
Sometimes, it’s about the nights you’re crying over payroll.

Most CEOs are staring at spreadsheets while their gut is screaming the truth. We’re trained to follow the data, stick to the “rules,” and chase a version of balance that doesn’t exist in startups.

In the latest (un)conversations episode (S2.E11), I sat down with Erika Hanafin Austria (NEON ID, MOMumental Reinvention, ex-CEO of HeyMama) to strip away the “Founder Polish” and talk about what leadership actually feels like behind the scenes.

We talked about scaling, failing, reinventing—and the mental gymnastics no one posts about.

4 key takeaways:
💡 Balance is a myth in startups
💡 Gut instinct + data > data alone
💡 Empathy is a leadership advantage (HEXACO lens)
💡 The best leaders don’t hide their bruises—they learn from them

“Reinvention isn’t changing who you are. It’s unlearning what no longer serves who you’re becoming.”

💬 Do you trust your gut or the data more when they conflict?

🎙️ New episode is live now on YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Amazon, and more.

From an insider meeting with large companies, your humanness and authenticity are SUPER valuable in the ai era! Dont let them tell you otherwise. It is our choice and opportunity right now to harness our humanness and infuse it into this era- before it gets away from us like it did in the beginning of the data era- ai to benefit humans and human quality of life. Take an active role in valuing yourselves in the ai era. You should own you in the ai era. #ownit #personality #aiforgood #explore #digitalidentity @catalystnowofficial @theneonid

POV ‘experiencing a paradigm shift’ ⚡️💫 When the female Founder and CEO of a humane technology company says to the female VP of the United States of America ‘we need to fight for the right of each person to own and profit from their digital identity’ - and the VP says ‘I totally agree’ …

I had a really cool life moment yesterday talking with VP Kamala Harris. After fighting this fight for many years, any kind of supportive awareness on the importance and benefit of people privately owning their digital identity can feel like a big win. Even our photo-bomber gave it a 'thumbs up'!
