Most people love the idea of wellness. The routines, the aesthetics, the trends. But very few people truly understand what real wellness actually looks like behind the scenes.

In this episode, Kat sits down with medical and holistic wellness expert Dr Anesu Mbizvo from The Nest Space and Freedohm Yoga to unpack the truth about healing, movement, hormones, nervous system regulation, and why growth often happens in the uncomfortable moments nobody posts online.

This conversation breaks down the myths surrounding women’s health and wellness — while exploring what it really means to reconnect with your body, mind, and overall wellbeing.

Inside this episode:
• The impact yoga has on the nervous system & hormones
• Why movement is essential for healing
• The connection between science & yoga
• Social media wellness vs real-life healing
• Sound healing, vibrations & holistic practices
• Why community matters in your wellness journey

In the third and final episode of our Gathering podcast series, Duduzile Mathebula joins The Nest Space to discuss the vital role of feminism and feminist principles in healing and community building. The conversation explores ritual, ceremony, and the physical act of gathering in intentionally held safe spaces as essential methods for collective healing. They also reflect on what truly constitutes a safe space for ritual, and what is required to hold space responsibly for ceremony and sustainable, community-based practices.

🎧 Listen to the episode on our website — link in our bio.

Duduzile Mathebula is a multi-faceted maker working across text-based art, beadwork, costume design, textiles, performance, and walking art. Her practice explores spirituality, indigenization, and lineage mapping through embodied and practical art engagements. She is a PhD candidate in Art at the University of South Africa, with interests in art education, art administration, and art therapy, focusing on the home as an institution and Black women as cultural producers. She is the founder of Dear Magic and Mahalathuto, an education programme rooted in indigenous cultural practices that reconnect communities to ancestral values and systems.

The Nest Space is an inclusive wellness space in Johannesburg founded by Banesa Molauoa Tseki and Dr. Anesu Mbizvo. Together, they lead a Black and female-owned holistic wellness centre grounded in yoga, plant-based living, sustainability, and community care, bridging Indigenous wisdom, movement, and integrative health.

Day 2 Wrap-Up | African Feminisms Gathering

We returned to body, to breath, to memory, to each other.

📍 The Gathering: African Feminist Rituals of Healing and Community

We moved gently, breathed deeply, and listened to the echoes of ancestral wisdom. Through meditation, sound, and story, we held space for healing as resistance reminding ourselves that presence, reflection, and ritual are the threads that hold African feminisms together. In partnership with @thenestspaceza

🎤 What does it take to build African feminist movements?

Françoise Moudouthe, Mariam Mohamad Hussein, and Monique Ilboudo called us into an intergenerational conversation honest, urgent, and bold. Together we mapped the struggles and the sustenance that keep our movements alive.

💻 Claiming the Web: Feminist Practices in the Digital Age

Abacar Hiuane Abacar(@inclusao.moz), Ifrikia Kenguè(@kifrikia), Nkem Agunwa(@nkemagunwa), and Herschal Jackson reminded us that the digital is not neutral. To claim space online is to resist erasure to code, to archive, to podcast, to create new digital ecosystems rooted in care, authorship, and agency.

Still feeling revived from the the 1st #MoveBloomPause wellness retreat. An intimate gathering that allowed our special ladies to decompress, connect and revitalize 🌿.

We kicked off with a calming yoga session with yogi @asande_cikizwa . Muscles were moved and tension released. The sound bath was a firm favourite. There was a definite positive shift in the room post the session.

The women’s wellness and menopause talk by @maskoffwithxoli allowed connection over authentic and shared lived experiences. Every story and experience mattered and was seen and heard.

@linda608 engaged the group on floral education, tools and care. It was heart-warming to hear which blooms are loved and even more precious to see the vibrant results and smiles from the bouquets they each created.
