They did it. They tied the knot. 🤍 Two of the funniest people I know, who have gifted me some of my greatest laughs — and now, the honour of crafting their wedding rings. They wed on a tropical island, beneath the sun and salty spray, surrounded by life’s greatest treasures: friends, family, good food and plenty of laughter. Their rings were delivered by their beloved fur baby, Larry, who arrived right on cue. 🐾 They committed the best of themselves to one another, for all the days to come. Congratulations, Mick and Nicky. You are both a true gift to this world, and I feel very lucky to have played a small part in this magical day. It started with a plinth and a bag of oranges. Then came a little RADF grant from Noosa Council, a lot of conversations, a few wild ideas and a feeling that we might just be onto something. And now we're on our way to delivering our first major project. We're very happy to announce that New North Inc. is a recipient of Arts Queensland Arts Projects funding for Apparent Light. Which means: we're ON. We'll be drowning in paper for a while. Four grants to get this puppy off the ground. But we'll bring you the art. Huge thanks to @artsqueensland, @noosa_council @locate_noosa_creatives @ausculturalfund our donors and everyone who has backed this thing from its plinth-and-oranges beginnings. We have a viable project. See you next July, Peregian Beach. ---------------- Apparent Light was developed with support from Noosa Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Noosa Council to support arts and culture in regional Queensland. It is proudly supported by Arts Queensland through the Regional Community Arts Fund and Arts Project Fund and Creative Australia's Australian Cultural Fund along with partners @peregianbeachhotel @thevillageperegianbeach @peregianhub and our donors!

It’s hard to put into words how special this past week has been. Two of my most treasured friends tied the knot, and yup the wedding was frikken epic to say the least, but getting to meet all their special people from all over the world was mind blowing. Heck. Where do I begin? I met Nicky and Mick as part of a team that approached us at Solbar to put on regular comedy shows in our band room. The friendship was instant. And since then they’ve become solid bezzies. Then meeting their mates from all the different seasons of their life, far out. You know they’re special when their entire circle are this damn special. Some I knew and relished being able to get to know them better. Many I didn’t, and they quickly became brand new friends. And in a room full of comedians geez there was never a dull moment. (Yet somehow Nicky’s dad stole the show, what a crack-up 😂) I think most everyone left in awe of the ripper crew they’ve melded together. I think it says so much about the kind of people Nicky and Mick are. When Solbar closed, they took me under their wing at Adelaide fringe, filled my broken heart with laughter, introduced me to so many cool people, and big ups to @scruff888 for putting up a total stranger in his guest room and being the sickest frikken fringe buddy from day dot. Hearing all their friends’ stories about their astounding generosity through the years was so impressive but not at all surprising. They’ve cultivated a whole comedy scene on the coast from scratch, built a successful business in a fucked entertainment climate, they foster connections and cultivate friendships everywhere they go, they’ve even trusted me with their marketing and supported me as part of their team… plus I think they loved Solbar as much as I did. And all the wedding staff and musos being Solbar crew was a cherry on top. I’m just totally blown away. Dunno how I got so damn lucky. Musta been a saint in a past life. Now please enjoy this selection of photos that were taken by everyone else not me. Except @christheblokefranklin with his “emotional support pumpkin” 😂 that one was me. Fkn love the lotta yas x
