From visiting the UAE at just 10 years old… to deciding at 16 that this was where she wanted to live… to finally making the leap with her son almost 2 years ago, Nicole’s journey is one of faith, consistency, and dreams fulfilled. 🌍

Today, she’s based in Abu Dhabi, building community, impacting lives, and growing Tea of Therapy, her initiative to make children’s mental health more accessible in schools and communities. 💛

Most people associate psychiatry, therapy, and mental health with a field exclusively treating adults for the most part. Many think perhaps the problems of a child do not amount to "legitimate" complaints.We must remember, our ability to tolerate and remain resilient through many of life's deamnds and stressors is not set in stone, and is a skill that must be cultivated in kids. Your child’s emotional wellbeing is just as important as their physical health. Your child's mental health can affects how they think, feel, act, and learn. Mental health also impacts how children handle stress and how they relate to others. Fact is, many more children suffer from mental health issues than many think. An astmated 20 million (1 in 6) children between 1-6 suffer from a mental illness. The number increases dramatically during the child's teenage years. if your child suffers from one of these ailments, this does not mean that you are in any way a bad parent, or failing; it simply means the stressors and/or change your child may be experiencing may exceed their current skills to cope. A qualified mental health practicioner can arm you and your child with the knowledge and tools needed to traverse these times. Untreated or undiagnosed mental illness can have catastrophic events on a child life.
👉🏼ADHD: late diagnosis or lack of treatment can lead to long term issues in school, lack of confidence in intelligence, and eventual drug abuse and difficulty keeping work.
👉🏼Depression: untreated increases a child's liklihood of attempting suicide greatly.
👉🏼Anxiety: untreated, at a higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on important social experiences, and engage in substance abuse.

Who wouldn’t love the kids and young adults we work with to become more focused, calm, in control, and self-aware? Mindfulness is a technique that can help teach and strengthen those abilities over time.

👉All kids benefit from practicing mindfulness.

🐲Breathe Fire Like a Dragon!

A huge component of mindfulness is learning how to control our own breathing. A way to get younger kids to buy in to this is making it fun. It might feel super silly at first, but it helps to bring the idea of deep breathing down to their level This is a great activity to do before tests.
