Huge thanks to the team who somehow pulled this all together in less than a week - especially DOP @arthurattenborough and producer @taz_film for going above and beyond to bring this vision to life, @louise.eva_ for the incredible custom-made phantom mask, and @mackerelmonday for my insane bat prosthetic. Full video on YT via link in bio. MAKE ENGLAND GOTH AGAIN.

‘I Used To Ride In Limousines’ is a song about failure and success. Its about making peace with failure, finding liberation in the sovereign, non-productive waste of failure, and about rejecting all instrumentalist notions of ‘success’ that subjugate life and the human experience itself to ‘success’ as an end goal. Its about the horror and hollowness of that definition of ‘success’. Its about rejecting the ego, and its about rediscovering and redefining a sense of self-worth that is entirely one’s own. Its about genuine, true, meaningful self-love and self-belief, beyond empty platitudes. Its about self-determination and self-becoming. Its about failure as purging. Its about the total realisation of the self through its own annihilation. Linji said: ‘If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.’

The life of the Spirit is not the life that shrinks from death and keeps itself untouched by devastation, but rather the life that endures it and maintains itself in it.
