Reminder..

Houston IS an art town.

It's not an art industry town though, that's for sure.

But that's what makes it what it is!

It's a place where the art is made in the absence of the lens of an industry hanging over its head. It's a place where the art is made for the artist. Where the art is made for the audience. It's a place where the art is made because we have both so much else to do and absolutely nothing better.

Houston leaves us asking: if art happens but it can't be added to your cart, did it really happen at all?

The answer is, of course, yes.

It happened.

With or without you.

You guys, we have a new program at Smither Park called “Books in the Bandshell.” Every other Tuesday at 9 am, various Orange Show staff members read to the littlest littles. Well, tomorrow morning it is my turn and I’ll be reading selections from Shel Silverstein s “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” You can expect “Hungry Mungry,” “Hector the Collector,” and “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out.” This is what my mom read to me before bed when I was a kid and these poems have stuck with me forever. Come thru friends and let’s enjoy this beautiful weather in the park. Bring the kid in your life or just bring the kid in yourself. @theorangeshow
