Okay so I WAS curious enough to take a peek at my life in frickin #2016 “just to see” how my life’s evolved and culture has shifted. A major reveal was whoa big hits are fun, yay! Identifying and mentoring future star executives is sooo personally gratifying but it’s a blurry area, big picture. Compassionate leadership (no judgment) isn’t everybody’s cup-o-tea and its results are hard to quantify but immodestly I do shine extreeemely brightly in this area 😉. A few highlights and this does not include JT’s ubiquitous song of the summer nor P!nk’s Just Like Fire, or even @g_eazy’s 2x Platinum When It’s Dark Out. We smashed 2016 outta the gate with @zayn’s Pillowtalk. Like whoa, clear the area🚨🚨🚨. And my loyal executive assistant @chloeeethatgirl (whose two predecessors were @robinadomi and @katiewwelle, and was soon promoted and replaced by @qslat94)and I were thick as thieves as we mapped out where to insert tastefully 10 minutes of @duttypaul ad-libs into #cheapthrills by @siamusic to relay to @gregkurstin and @rachelkurstin 🙌There was @doubleduzit’s elation after signing @goldlink and @tunji defying A&R gravity by signing @btiller and @thegr8khalid in quick succession & sending me a pic with @keithsweat which was my new-jack-nickname back in the day. Plus what were the odds of the stars aligning for a tongue in cheek rockabilly smash @elleking 🤘Or for a hella talented endearing a cappella band to OWN Christmas @ptxofficial ❄️ I had to include @nastyynashe here because I loved her from our first meeting, am sooo stoked for her massive year and she was one of TWO artists who reached out to me when my Mom passed last year and think of how many artists I’ve worked with 😔So here’s the thing, what a blessed career year in hindsight but how healthy is a 90/10 work/life balance? Portraying a zen exterior, how much toll does that take on one’s mental health? Is it fair to your spouse and family? Or to the true friends who love you unconditionally who *understand* you can’t attend events that matter in your soul because you’re too busy? I’ve made some healthful switch-ups this past decade in pursuit of a 50/50 balance. Work in progress here 🙋🏻‍♂️❤️🙏

Earlier this month, Bandier Program professor Michelle Santosuosso organized and hosted a star-studded panel of industry professionals for students taking BAN 335: Business of Record Labels and Publishers!

The speakers pulled on a host of pressing music industry topics, from the economics of streaming payouts to what it means for artists to own their own master recordings in today’s industry. Students learned about the value of their own Gen Z taste through panelist stories of young people impacting marketing campaigns through their insight on youth culture.

Day 1 speakers included Lori Rischer, Sr VP Artist Relations at RealSongs Music Publishing; Craig Marshall, Partner at Myman Greenspan; Omar Grant, Co-President of Roc Nation and Co-Founder of Chapter Music Group; and Adonis Sutherlin, SVP A&R Operations at RCA Records.

Day 2 speakers included Adrian Miller, artist manager and owner of artist management outfit Xyion; Brian Samson, Director of Rhythm/Top 40 Promotion at EMPIRE; Russell Gaskins, Co-Founder/Chief Creative Officer of CODA Music; and Troy “R8DIO” Johnson, music producer who has worked with Will Smith, Solange, and more.

Thank you to all the speakers and to Professor S for organizing this incredible opportunity!
