Great music and chat on my Sunday Show tomorrow morning on WCR FM from 8 until midday in partnership with the City of Wolverhampton College alongside co-host Ethan Shaw.

The chat is with Charlotte Steel as part of Mental Health Awareness Week - highlighting the importance of self care in business and in life.

Chef Mitch Lane also joins us to say why he's jumping out of a plane to support Good Shepherd Services.

Pamilerin Beckley outlines how the £2.5m grant received by the The Haven Wolverhampton will be supporting those affected by Domestic Abuse.

The podcasts of the conversation with last week's guests Maya Patel, Kashmire Hawker (He/Him) and Warinder Juss MP are now available at https://www.wcrfm.com/podcasts/the-chris-allen-podcast/

🌷 CE “Grow” - Week 20… something🌷

In the spirit of the mantra I try to live by with others, I’m meeting myself where I am and accepting that I lost count somewhere along the way, but here we go!

I have a double update this week after the most moving, fulfilling, and thought-provoking day of my time so far with @thehavenwton, and I need to talk about it twice!

Articulating HerStory is an existing workstream in the service where our (newly promoted!) Lived Experience Lead @thepenwarrior has worked with supporters to fund art-based expressive outlets for survivors. This one is not my baby, but Pam’s, and is a journey I have been delighted to tag along on.

Recently, Pam took some of our younger residents, women aged 18-24, on a journey of expression through spoken word. With the support of the incredible @diaryof_apoet, the women attended several workshops at @mandercentre (thank you!) and were supported to explore poetry as a form of expression during their recovery journey. Last week, we were hosted by the wonderful @wolvesgrand to hold an open mic night where these brave, courageous and incredibly talented women then presented their work.

If I could bottle the emotion, pride and support in the room, we would never need to raise a penny again. I was in awe with every word, every breath and every tear during what as an emotional and captivating display of bravery and inspiration.

We invited a small number of trusted partners to join us, along with staff from across services, some of whom were inspired to contribute their own impactful stories of lived experience, or of life at The Haven and the profound impact it has on the women who work here.

Pam, the team and I left feeling utterly inspired and with a sense that this is just the beginning of The Haven’s poetry era, and I am so excited to share more as we progress this.

For now, this week’s first post is dedicated to the young women who headlined this event. Whilst we can’t and wouldn’t share their moment here, I sure hope you get a sense of the impact they had when reading this. I am SO proud and SO grateful to have been in their audience 🤍
