Yesterday, West Hartford and Hartford CT community members gathered for a vigil in remembrance of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo of Houston, TX.

On July 7th, 2026, ICE agents shot and killed Lorzeno in cold blood while he was on his way to work. This now marks the 4th person killed in public by ICE this year, in addition to the dozens of confirmed deaths in ICE concentration camps. His murder, as with those before him, shocks our collective conscience and is a dark reminder that so long as this regime remains in power, any one of us can become victims.

As we mourn and remember Lorenzo in solidarity with his family, CT DSA Hartford Branch Co-Chair Mars R. emphasizes that these are the moments where our actions must match our words. Engaging in community organizing to building networks of solidarity to counter ICE is how we protect each other.

We have a responsibility to all of our immigrant neighbors to ensure that ICE does not freely terrorize our communities. We have a responsibility to Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, to Renee good, to Alex Pretti, to Keith porter jr and to all those who are held in concentration camps across the country, to bring ice terrorists and enablers to justice. We have a responsibility to ensure that no more fathers, mothers, and loved ones lives are taken by this administration.
