Stop in this weekend and grab a t-shirt to support Ty's Reef, a charity created in memory of an extraordinary young sailor who lived his life doing what he loved, creating art and enjoying everything the ocean had to offer. Tragically, Ty lost his life in 2001 in a boating accident. Ty's family created a reef in his memory from the beautiful ship that Ty had restored himself with his bare hands. Today, Ty's Reef now brings children on fishing expeditions over the reef in the Great South Bay of Long Island.

We are so honored to be partnering with @tysreef this weekend as we close out the @bungersurfshop exhibition, Beyond The Break, which features both Ty's artwork as well as his board crafted by Tommy Bunger, the "Electric Ty". Ty's Reef has such a deep rooted connection with Bunger Surf Shop, from Tommy crafting several boards for fundraisers, to catching countless waves on Bunger surfboards.

About Ty's Reef:
"Ty lived aboard the Peregrine, a replica of a 16th-century Spanish galleon he discovered in a Florida shipyard no longer seaworthy. His loving handiwork brought her back to life and then home together to the Great South Bay."

In 2001, they lost Ty.

"The same sea that fueled his creativity and spirit claimed his life in a boating accident on the Great South Bay. The following spring, his family made the heartfelt decision to return his beloved Peregrine to the sea."

"In 2001, Ty’s Reef was born, creating a vibrant home for marine life. That same year, the Ty Hellriegel Peregrine Foundation was established."

"Since then, the Foundation has honored Ty’s love of the sea by taking thousands of children fishing over the reef, the very waters that inspired him throughout his life. Ty’s Reef now stands in the waters of the Great South Bay, Long Island, New York, serving as a living source of refuge and inspiration for all who venture upon it."

From Thursday, 9/3 through Saturday 9/5, the gallery will be selling Ty's Reef t-shirts with 100% of the proceeds going to them. Everyone who buys a shirt will receive 10% off their purchase of all prints and original artwork. This video only scratches the surface of effort and enjoyment that played into the making of the Phoenix gallery. Thanks so much to @bws_artist for taking me on as your accomplice and trusting me creatively.

Thanks again to all my friends and family that showed up… I couldnt get any great videos of the turnout because of how busy I was talking with everyone there. It was a whirlwind each night and I am so eternally grateful that we had such a large crowd.
 Thanks to my dad @mlaietacontracting for raising me with stories of Phoenix Surfboards, and thanks to @thechristensengallery for making this come to life.

Everyone who donated a surfboard, bought a book, grabbed a tee or showed up to the event is a part of the new age of Phoenix.

Thanks again to @bws_artist for letting me be your sidekick and cheers to my new ink.
