✨A gorgeous brunch spot hidden in the heart of Athens🇬🇷☕️

@thepicky.gr is located in Psyrri, right in the centre of Athens, but step inside and you’ll find a beautiful, leafy courtyard that feels like a little escape from the busy city streets.🌿🤍

The menu has everything from smashed avocado, eggs and fresh bowls to pancakes, wraps and Greek-inspired options, alongside specialty coffee, fresh juices and smoothies.☕️🥑

Such a lovely spot for a slow morning in Athens especially if you can grab a table in the courtyard!

Lake Vouliagmeni

This thermal lake is tucked beneath limestone cliffs on the Athenian Riviera and is warm year-round, supplied by seawater that is channeled up from underground caves. Due to its natural positioning, the waters are rich in minerals such as potassium, iron, sodium and calcium, which is why the lake has functioned as an outdoor spa since the 19th century. Bring a towel, go for a swim and end with lunch by the water at Sardelaki me Thea overlooking the sea.

This tiny Cycladic-inspired village is nestled beneath the Acropolis mount. Built in the 19th century by stonemasons from the island of Anafi, it’s still inhabited by residents and cats who prefer a sleepier and quieter side of Athens. Get up early and head here to explore whitewashed houses, narrow lanes, and one of the strangest shifts in atmosphere anywhere in the city.

Diporto

This legendary subterranean taverna is nestled beneath the central market off Sokratous. To this day they have no sign, no set menu and serve up lunch only. A visit to Diporto truly feels like stepping back in time — they first opened in 1887 and have been operating for over 130 years since.

Cine Paris

This open-air cinema on a Plaka rooftop was named one of the best open air movie theaters in the world. Open since the 1920s, this is the spot to be on a late summer evening as the sun sets and the Acropolis rises directly behind the screen.

A few photos from our single day of exploration in the city of Athens. Parts of me wishes we had more time, parts of me would’ve skipped it altogether and headed straight to the islands 😅
It was a bit chaotic in the busy parts of the city, but you could also tell that crowds were slowing down for the end of the summer season. We had some of the best food to start our trip off, including fresh açaí bowls and crispy baked feta with the perfect amount of honey drizzled on top. I wish I’d gone back for seconds.
