If I could say one thing about Oxford and Mississippi as a whole, the place where I’ve lived practically my entire life. It would be that there’s beauty beneath the piles of rot. If you know where to look there are enclaves of talented artists and intelligent, compassionate people who have rooted themselves down against the crashing waves of all the chaos happening around them. Plants that thrive in the cracks of sidewalks. Trees that live despite the encroaching kudzu. Those are the things I will miss as I leave. The quaint beauty of rolling hills and tilled fields, the people who exist despite the culture that surrounds them, the underground of alternative music and culture that endures that always catches you by surprise. I hope that they grow more emboldened, more assertive, and that the take up more space and not let the oppressive structures around them take them down or shut them out.
As I leave I want to say thank you to everyone, those who left and those stayed. I genuinely believe that every person you meet leaves a mark on you no matter how small. I can say with confidence that I would not be who I am today if not for the people in my life.

To end an unnecessarily long winded caption, I bid Oxford farewell for new horizons, new people, and new experiences. But I know I will never forget my time here, for better or for worse.
