Celebrating Idaho, the POTATO way—Fun, Freedom, Family, Adventure & Community!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Join us on Thursday, August 13, for Pass the POTATO—a community gathering that connects neighbors through food, place, and purpose.

This event is built around the POTATO Movie—a 90-minute documentary celebrating everyday Idahoans doing Idaho things the Idaho way.

After the film, POTATO film producer Shannon McGuire will facilitate a kitchen table conversation that invites every person to share their Idaho story. Through structured prompts and reflection, participants begin to see how much they have in common with the neighbors sitting right next to them.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with the screening beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This event is free with registration encouraged.

When people move to Idaho and say they want to keep Idaho the way it is, they usually mean perceived political positions, but the more I’ve learned about Idaho, the more I’ve realized that it’s not the red vs blue that makes it incredible. It’s the communities that come together that make it the best place in the country. If newcomers want to preserve Idaho, they should meet their neighbors and get involved in non-political community events. That’s what brings everyone together. Shannon McGuire, executive producer of The Potato Movie, moved from LA almost 20 years ago and articulated the value of community here perfectly in our recent conversation.

Should any state be known for only a small portion of its worst residents? Yes, Idaho has some bad people, but is that all or even a significant portion of them? Shannon McGuire, the executive producer of the Potato Movie, had a beautiful take on this.

This will never NOT be funny to me. 😂 The number of people who instantaneously look down on Idaho while simultaneously turning a blind eye to unspeakable crime, homelessness, drug action, and horrible emergency and social services in their own state is so wild to me. Shannon McGuire, executive producer of the Potato Movie, and I both moved from the state that shall not be named, and after almost two decades of calling Idaho home, Shannon felt moved to produce her film as a long song to the beautiful Gem State. She and the film are so moving.
