‘Fierce faces and fireplaces’ what do we think of that name for my account 🤨? Another week over and now into October I’m trying not to think we’re edging closer to the dreaded ‘C’ word but we’ll cross that bridge when it comes 😩😂no torture chambers next week as I’ve got to wait until the Monday after for my crown fitting so at the moment have a temporary one which feels like I’ve got the entire contents of a packet of wrigleys balled up in my mouth 😳anyway we’ll drink to a dentist free week next week and open the bar around 4ish cheers for later and happy October!

You inspired me!

I went to @the_homegrown_market_ with the intention of buying some dahlias outside of my normal colour palette. You brought so many amazing ones to the open day, it made me realise how stuck in my dahlia ways I have become! But that is the joy of the flower market. Stems and flowers you might never have seen or used before and grown in Sussex by a bunch of brilliant growers.

These large dahlias are grown by @littlepinkgarden with supporting little marmalade Pom poms and zinnias by @sidnyeflowers. The marmalade ones were apparently a happy accident sent in a box of tubers but they are fabulous. Gourds from @folly_oast

Came home and I loaded the log baskets and got the Autumn cushions out - Yes I’m one of those - home feels so cosy now. Love these big bows from @theprimitivehomeltd they have wire in them so they stand up and don’t go floppy. No one wants a floppy bow 🎀

Ok…..I’m ready 🎃🍁🍂

Start with the art. Then borrow its colours.

This week, a small, wonderfully loose landscape sets the palette: moss, ochre and parchment.

Muddy olive greens, chalky neutrals, tobacco browns and little flashes of warm ochre.

That’s what we love about starting a room with a painting. You don’t need to match everything to it. Just let the artwork give you somewhere to begin.

And that murky, almost impossible-to-name background colour? Little Greene Silt No. 40 — rather perfect with the whole palette.

As you can see, the dresser now houses the record player which isn’t an issue… but the speakers… HOW AM I TO DISGUISE BIG BLACK BREEZE BLOCKS?!

Obviously not a first world problem, but just another problem living with Oli and his large technology. 👊🏼✨

My new flowers picked from the garden are cute though.

The latest is this beautiful 1920s old oak Jardiniere from @thedeliberatehome . Absolute gem with its warmth and patina. The jug below is another find from @theprimitivehomeltd . It’s so good to give these old pieces a new home.

Colour drenching - something we love to do at Holly’s House.
What is it? It’s taking the wall colour all over the ceiling, the skirting, cornice & architraves & in this particular project over the built in joinery.
Why do it? It can make a room feel bigger, cosier, softer, calming & more cohesive.

Our newly refurbished attic bedroom on the second floor. Traditionally, this has always been the children's bedroom, but with an increasing number of hen parties and all-adult groups using our beach house, we decided to renovate this with a more sophisticated feel.

The attic rooms has four single beds in two separate bedrooms. This room enjoys beautiful sea views and is a quiet, calm space ideal for friends sharing.
