EP. 17 - Cole Walter breaks down one of the biggest issues in athlete development being too hard on yourself. Mistakes happen. The key is learning from them, fixing them, and moving on.

With the pressure athletes face today from youth sports to college and beyond, mental resilience is just as important as skill. The ones who improve fastest aren’t perfect; they adjust.

The Art of Coaching…what separates a “good” coach from a “GREAT” coach…

Simply put, being a “good” coach is defined by creating efficient & effective program design that leads to positive results, & goals attained. That is first & foremost. But, that is just the meeting the baseline standard of what an athlete looks to you for, and trusts you with doing. That is why they go to you in the first place.

A GREAT coach designs programs with efficiency & effectiveness for positive results & goal attainment, AND KNOWS how to deeply connect with the athlete. They know what to say to the athlete, & more importantly HOW to say it (tone infliction is key) to impact & inspire the athlete in such a a way as to pull out of them what the coach knows lies within them.

This does not mean to be a “cheerleader” & yelling terms like “push harder” or “keep going” to drive them. It is about understanding in that moment what they need to hear to take them deeper within themselves & what they are capable of doing to achieve a higher level of performance attainment. Teaching them that where they are WILLING to take themselves in training, they WILL take their competition to when it is time.

This is something that cannot be learned or taught, it is either engrained in you or it isn’t.
These are the moments that will play back in an athletes head when they are in deep waters in competition. These are the moments where the Champion mindset is fortified…where Champions are built & GREATNESS is achieved.

That is where the standard is raised, and a “GREAT” coach is defined.
