This is what Village Gravel is about.

After the race, a rider shared this story with me.

During the 30-mile course, he met Sean, a rider from Texas who had suffered a stroke that left him with paralysis in his right leg and left arm.

With about eight miles to go, Sean had a sidewall puncture.

Another rider caught up to him, stopped, pulled out his tools and went to work. Sean’s limited dexterity made it difficult for him to make the repair himself, but with a little teamwork, some tools and duct tape, they got the tire patched well enough for him to keep going.

Sean rode those final eight miles and crossed the finish line.

The rider who stopped to help told me, “I wasn’t going to be making the podium, so I wasn’t concerned about time.”

That line says so much.

Yes, we race. We chase times, podiums and personal goals. But sometimes the most important thing you do on a bike has nothing to do with your finish time.

It’s stopping.
Helping another rider.
Making sure someone gets to experience their finish line too.

This is the community we want to continue building at Village Gravel.

And these are the stories that matter.

How to Dress for Village Gravel

Three distances. Three start times. One unpredictable mountain forecast.

Here’s how to prepare based on the current forecast:

VG100 — 7:30 AM | Approximately 65°F
You’ll start during the coolest part of the morning and could experience the biggest temperature swing. Arm warmers or a light vest may feel good at the start, but make sure everything is easy to remove and carry. Pack a lightweight rain jacket for later in the day.

VG60 — 8:30 AM | Approximately 70°F
It should already be warming up, so avoid overdressing. Lightweight, removable layers are your friend. You’ll be out long enough for the weather to change, so carry a rain shell even if the sky looks clear.

VG30 — 9:30 AM | Approximately 74°F
Your start should feel warm, so standard summer riding clothing will likely be comfortable. Skip the heavy layers, but still bring a packable rain jacket. A warm start does not guarantee a dry finish.

My tricks for being prepared:

* Pack a lightweight rain jacket that fits easily in a jersey pocket or hydration pack.
* Wear clear or low-light lenses if the skies are cloudy.
* Apply extra anti-chafe product—wet clothing changes everything.
* Keep a dry shirt, socks, shoes and warm layer waiting at the finish.
* Check the forecast again on race morning.
* Dress for your start time, but pack for the weather you may encounter later.

At 7,000 feet, conditions can change quickly. The current forecast shows temperatures climbing through the morning with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms, making rain preparation especially important for VG100 riders.

I have ridden the Village Gravel 60 course weekly and it’s a hard rewarding day.

60 miles of Northern Arizona gravel, big views, high-country forest roads, chunky parts, fast sections, climbing, and just enough singletrack to keep things interesting.

I put this reel together to give you a look at what’s waiting for you on August 22—and hopefully take a little of the mystery out of race day.

The VG60 is a course you want to ride smart. Don’t get caught up going too hard early. Settle in, fuel from the beginning, stay on top of your hydration, and save something for the second half. Watch for flags and caution signs they are there to keep you safe. This course is marked with PURPLE VG 60 signs.

And don’t forget to look around. You’re riding around the San Francisco Peaks through some pretty incredible country.

Study the course. Download your route. Get your bike dialed.

Then come ready for 60 miles with the Village.

See you August 22.

THE VG30. Don’t underestimate it just because it’s the “short” course.

FYI: All 30 course markers are BLUE!

30 miles of pure Flagstaff riding through the ponderosa pines, fast forest roads, rolling gravel, volcanic cinders, wide-open meadows, punchy climbs and those San Francisco Peaks views that make you forget your legs are working.

It’s fast. It’s beautiful. It’s challenging in all the right ways. And it’s absolutely a REAL gravel race.

First gravel race? This is your course.

Want to pin it and see how fast you can go? This is your course.

Coming on a mountain bike? YES.

Just want an insanely fun day on the bike followed by the full Village Gravel finish-line party? THIS. IS. YOUR. COURSE.

The VG30 gives you the adventure without requiring an all-day sufferfest.

30 miles. Big mountain energy. One hell of a day on a bike.

See you at the Village.

The Village Gravel 100 is our signature event.
This isn’t just 100 miles. It’s a journey through some of the most iconic gravel and mountain bike terrain in Northern Arizona.

The route circles the San Francisco Peaks before venturing deep into the Coconino National Forest, linking together fast gravel roads, flowing doubletrack, and sections of purposefully selected singletrack that showcase the very best of Flagstaff riding. Every mile was chosen to create an experience—not just add distance.

You’ll climb through towering ponderosa pine forests, roll across open alpine meadows, ride beneath ancient volcanic peaks, and descend miles of smooth forest roads where speed and flow take over. Along the way, you’ll tackle volcanic cinder climbs, winding singletrack, and remote stretches of backcountry that remind you just how wild Northern Arizona can be.

The singletrack isn’t there to slow you down—it’s there to reward you. Fast, fun, and incredibly scenic, these sections add character to the course and connect riders to Flagstaff’s legendary trail network in a way few gravel events can.

The Village Gravel 100 demands smart pacing, good fueling, and a sense of adventure. It will challenge you, but it will also reward you with unforgettable views, incredible riding, and the satisfaction that comes from earning every mile.

✅ A complete circumnavigation of the San Francisco Peaks
✅ Over 100 miles of diverse Northern Arizona terrain
✅ Fast gravel roads, flowing doubletrack, and thoughtfully integrated singletrack
✅ Epic climbs, long descents, volcanic landscapes, and endless pine forests
✅ An unforgettable endurance challenge built by riders, for riders

This is the course we’ve always wanted to race. It’s not about surviving 100 miles—it’s about experiencing one of the most beautiful days you can have on a bike.

If you’re ready for an adventure, the Village Gravel 100 is waiting.

One of the best parts of Village Gravel happens after you cross the finish line.

Then head over to the Village Gravel Block Party, where our partners will be serving complimentary cocktails, sharing stories, and celebrating an incredible day on the bike.

As the sun sets, grab a seat on the lawn for our outdoor Gravel Film Festival featuring inspiring cycling films, adventure stories, and the spirit of the gravel community.
No rushing home. No packing up and leaving.

Just good people, great food, free drinks, live music, post-race recovery, films under the stars, and the kind of atmosphere that reminds us why we ride.
