MOTOR VALLEY: In northern Italy, spread out across the Po River plain between Piacenza and Rimini, lies an unrivaled trove for automotive aficionados. Here in Emilia-Romagna—amidst lambrusco vineyards, olive groves, and boutique producers of Parmigiano Reggiano and Aceto Balsamico—the country’s famed sports car heritage was formed.

Architectural Digest spotlights the Porsche Barn by @ikebakervelten—a Sonoma County retreat where car storage is seamlessly woven into a fully realized creative sanctuary.

Designed as both workshop and retreat, this quiet sanctuary beautifully balances a five-car garage with dedicated spaces for a curated collection, music, and everyday relaxation. From the vineyard views and screened sleeping porch to the finely tuned acoustic listening room, every detail reflects a thoughtful approach to utility and craftsmanship.

Discreet from the outside yet deeply layered within, the design reflects IBV’s thoughtful approach to craftsmanship.

In “The ‘Porsche Barn,’ Explained for the Rest of Us,” featured today on @archdigest, Carl tells @therealbrettberk how our original mission to design a fire-resistant vault to house a beloved Porsche collection expanded to create space for a pair of physician-scientists to indulge all of their hobbies.

In addition to the 1,600-square-foot garage, the retreat features a 900-square-foot living space where the couple enjoys their extensive vinyl collection, wine, and even breeding plants for their garden.

#porschecollector #carstorage #luxurygarage Exterior view of the ‘Porsche Barn,’ a fire-resistant luxury garage and retreat designed by Bay Area residential architecture firm Ike Baker Velten, featuring weathered steel cladding, a standing-seam metal roof, and wide pivot doors opening to reveal a curated Porsche collection inside. The modern barn-like structure sits within a rural landscape, balancing industrial materials with precise detailing. Styled by Georgy Jorik and photographed by Jonathan Mitchell for an Architectural Digest feature written by Brett Berk, the article details how an “architectural gem” began as high-performance car storage. Ike Baker Velten’s ‘Porsche Barn’ project was led by Carl Baker and is located in Sonoma County, California.

@thewaroncars has been advocating for a less car-dependent world. @therealbrettberk reviewed their new book and thinks they might be on to something. What do you think?

Automobili Pininfarina Beard Club!! I had the honor of moderating a discussion between Davide “Dave” Amantea and Magnus Walker. 18 months ago, Magnus and Pininfarina began working on a one of one, “Gentleman Outlaw” version of the bonkers 1,900 hp Battista. We get into the huh, why, and how of the collab. Plus, these two guys are just good dudes.

We had a killer talk, in front of a great audience. The car remains a rendering for the moment, but I hope it gets built. Just so cool. And it’s just such a treat to the larger car world begin to see Mango as more than a Porsche guy, as a serious designer, and one who further cements L.A.’s preeminent position atop the world of cars. Congrats to all involved. Video coming real soon.
