Celebrating 4 years of professionally believing in myself as a full time creative.

I quit my full time job teaching college Acting and Directing in Hollywood 4 years ago today. I had no plan past faith in myself and amazing support from my husband Kyle, family, and friends.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me as I navigate this wild world while becoming the most powerful performer and creative that I can be.

If you are in the messy middle with me, I'm encourage you to keep doing the things that light you up.

And if you feel pressured to "niche down" to focus on one thing, let me propose an alternative.

I am delighting in a portfolio creative career where in the last 4 years I've gotten to:

-Act across film, commercial, VO, audiobook, & vertical
-Sing shows in Vegas & rap for a horror film
-Direct, AD, & Produce with incredible people
-Write my first pilot and read it with a dreamy cast
-Film & photograph amazing events
-Host 45+ episodes of my Creator's Cafe podcast
-Create the 30-video series "Create an Camera"
-Lead convos about the creative industry on Reuters & podcasts
-Gather friends at dozens of Creator's Salons
-Provide Creative Direction for 4 scaling businesses
-Coach creatives and entrepreneurs on acting, writing, pitching, and creating an online on-camera presence
-Design 3 digital courses
-Mentor creatives and entrepreneurs
-Create content & strategy for entertainment, tech, nonprofits, healthcare, real estate, education, + more.

Every day is full and different.

And each area expands and supports the others.

Directing makes me a better actor. Acting makes me a better coach. I got my amazing agents at Sovereign from a podcast guest. A Creative Direction client came from a coaching client referral. A coaching client came from a coffee shop conversation with a producer while I was writing content.

I'm better at each creative aspect because they all give me experience from a new perspective.

I'm so grateful for everyone who has worked with me, created with me, hung out or commiserated with me, and referred me.

Let's keep playing and creating together 💙

xoxo,
Jessica

Thank you @prince_travj for all of your support over the many months of training. More importantly congratulations to you and your team on crushing your first comp ❤️

Shout out to @bymarcella.photography for the amazing photos and the whole @bricklosangeles crew for your hard work.

I don’t showcase too much of this kind of work on my feed, but I think I should. Spent the last weekend chasing around and capturing this amazing group of people giving it their all and putting themselves out there and it’s definitely something that should be admired. Proud of all of you @bricklosangeles peeps and all the hard work you do! Here’s to the future comps 💪

Because it’s my birthday and because I can’t say anything in 10 words or less, there’s a larger essay titled “On turning 46.” It’s too long for here. It’s like I think I’m Joan Didion or something.

Anyways this small excerpt highlights some important people and mainly people I saw in September, all of whom lifted my spirits during a difficult month.

I started CrossFit this year and met the most joyful dude (born and bred New Yorker) and best trainer Kyle. He gave me flowers yesterday, hugged me three times, and then made me cry from the workout or flowers - unclear which.

I saw Joshua after 10 years, and it couldn’t have been a better night. I also got a hug from him and he told me to stop clenching my fists. He also sends wonderful voice notes and they usually arrive unexpectedly when I’m going through something.

Noreen has given the best advice always has and always will and has great stories.

Sean and Mary bought me an expensive lunch, which for anyone who knows him (or me) knows these lunches are not cheap.

Darin should get his own post and will one day. Everyone knows he’s steadfast.

And Ruby - the golden retriever- was there when I was lonely.

Finally, Peaches enjoying one of her final meals at Petit Trois.

So many firsts this past weekend at @wodapalooza - I love competing because it forces you to push the limits you thought you couldn’t go beyond.

Leading up, me and @zachatack93 practiced HSW practically every day, neither of us could crack it. But put us on the competition floor, and even under pressure, I got 15’ and Zach got his first 5’! I’m so proud of us 🥹

Thank you to all the wonderful coaches at @bricklosangeles - yall are our biggest cheerleaders 💛💛💛 and we couldn’t do it without you!

Thank you to @bymarcella.photography for always capturing these moments, I know you were spread thin!

Thanks to all the amazing volunteers and judges @wodapalooza - literally this wouldn’t happen without you!

‘til next year 🤘🏻
