I only just pulled a handful of favorites... but I HAVE to share these with you guys.

Why?

These are MY parents.

I photograph a lot of ‘newer love’. Now I don’t mean that in a bad way. I mean that in the way that my parents have been together for almost 36 years. Since they were in high school. Married 31 years. Remember I’m only 29.

But I see a lot of couples who are young in their marriages and I see years like 2020 and know that these young couples have plenty of hard times in their relationships ahead of them. I think that’s part of the reason I value photos of couples so much. Silly as it seems, sometimes you need to remind yourself how blessed you are when you are married. Sometimes your spouse is going through a really hard time. Sometimes one of their parents dies. Sometimes they drive you crazy. Sometimes they put the dishes in the dishwasher in a weird way (Tyler) or always are behind on laundry (me). Sometimes you aren’t being your best self for them. Sometimes you face trials together and feel like it’s the two of you against the world. Sometimes the water heater and the furnace go our back to back.... and then after you fix the dryer, the ceiling in your bathroom floods. Yes I am speaking from recent experience. 🙃

But I have seen my parents model all of this for me. They wear 36 years well. They’ve been through the hard stuff. They’ve had the trials I’m talking about.

But they also have these incredible memories of hiking the freaking Matterhorn in their 40’s together. And taking their grandson on adventures and building their formal garden dreams out.

Adventure clients, take note. They do allllll the big stuff together. And the little stuff. And the easy stuff. And the hard stuff. The fun stuff and the not so fun stuff. This is marriage. This is loving each other for 36 years.

It’s not all Greek island hopping. It’s not all planning for Patagonia. But I hope that your marriage is more beautiful than your wedding. I hope you still giggle at each other after 36 years.

It’s hard work. But it’s worth it.
