Happy Juneteenth & Solidarity with the DRC!!!! ❤️💙🤍💛❤️💙

This Juneteenth we here at @lancasterchangemakers focused on intersectionality and Pan-African liberation. We took action and organized a Juneteenth for DRC: Rally for Congo, in order to highlight the interconnectedness of Black American and Congolese oppression and liberation. Because none of us are free until all of us are free.

Thank you so so much to everyone who made time to come out and join us for an evening of music, poetry, education and direct action! We learned about the liberation of Black enslaved person in Galveston, Texas in 1865, the abolishment of chattel slavery and the introduction of modern day slavery via the Prison industrial complex as well as the disproportionate oppression and exploitation of Black Americans via the carceral system and prison labour system. We then discussed the current genocide, exploitation and displacement of the Congolese people, the over 7 million Congolese killed since 1996 and the ways in which their blood and slave labour powers western technology. And what we can do to help!

We were able to collect shoes for one of our comrades, Tara, to donate to the @ntibonerafoundation to send to Congolese families in the Democratic Republic of Congo, hear about the important work the NAACP is doing to address ongoing injustices faced by Black Americans in this nation and how to donate to orgs like @focuscongo & activists like @therealntumba who are working tirelessly to help the people of the DRC 🥹❤️ We are proud to support these activists and orgs!

Big thank you to all of our speakers: Blanding Watson of the Lancaster @lancaster_naacp @leavebrian, @cutiepiepichan @jenni.calabrese @sobeida_rosa of the Lancaster Changemakers Collective, and shout out to @lancasterstandsup @lanc.dsa for your help in providing sound system, water, printables and planning support through this whole process. We are so grateful for the solidarity and support. We wish you all a Happy Juneteenth and remember: None of us are free until all of us are free. Happy Juneteenth and Free Free Congo always! 🙌🏾🇨🇩❤️
