Dwele is one of my favourite artists of all time. He is truly brilliant. The right-side of his brain is fully on 100!!
He is definitely top 3 in my favourite genre of music - NEO-SOUL.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about the term ‘Neo-Soul’, what its origins are and what it REALLY means. For some people it seems to be almost like a curse word! But for me, it’s simply how I categorise the type of music I love the most, and Dwele is right at the top of that list.

I can’t wait to see him live in London this weekend 🙌🏿 #dwele #neosoul #soulmusic

Released on March 13, 2007, “Popular Demand” is the second studio solo album from rapper and producer Black Milk (@black_milk) 🎛️
Released on Fat Beats Records (@fatbeats), “Popular Demand” was the follow-up to the 2005 debut “Sound Of The City: Volume 1”. Representing Detroit, Michigan, Black Milk began his career producing for Slum Village (@officialslumvillage). Teaming up with Young RJ (@youngrj313) and Fat Ray (@fatray1), Black Milk formed the group known as B.R. Gunna, releasing “Dirty District Vol. 2” in 2004. After releasing his debut solo album titled “Sound Of The City: Volume 1” in 2005, Black Milk went on to team up with Fat Beats Records, leading to the release of the “Broken Wax” EP the following year. In 2007, he returned with his second full-length studio album titled “Popular Demand”, initially including a bonus disc containing three tracks from the “Broken Wax” EP alongside six instrumentals. Production on the album was handled entirely by Black Milk himself. Guest features include Fat Ray, Slum Village (@t3slum @elzhi), Guilty Simpson (@guiltysimpson), Phat Kat (@phat_kat_aka_ronnie_euro), and others 🎛️
In 2008, Black Milk returned with his third studio solo album “Tronic”. His most recent full-length solo project titled “Everybody Good?” was released in 2023 🎛️

🍩WHAT UP DOE!

February 2026 will mark the 20th anniversary of the release of the album „Donuts“ and the untimely passing at the age of 32 of J DILLA, aka JAY DEE, aka DILLA DAWG, aka JAMES YANCEY, the iconic Detroit producer/rapper who left his mark on a generation with his creative and musical genius.

For years FREE YOUR FUNK organized the annual THANK YOU J DILLA party, and it seemed important to celebrate this major Hip Hop artist once again for this 20th anniversary.

Join us on Friday, February 6th at @newmorningparis from 7 PM to 12:30 AM for a unique event featuring live performances and DJ sets, endorsed by J DILLA’s mother, MA DUKES, and supported by the J DILLA FOUNDATION.

Conceived and organized with the German/Tunisian BEN* @turntablejazz, we’re bringing in rapper PHAT KAT @phat_kat_aka_ronnie_euro and DJ DEZ aka ANDRÉS @dezandresmahogani , former DJ of SLUM VILLAGE, all the way from Detroit for a unique live performance as X-100 with musicians including Berlin-based Hungarian artist ÀBÁSE @abase_music, TOMI HEILIG @tomiheilig on Bass, followed by a special J DILLA DONUTS ANNIVERSARY DJ set.

The evening will kick off at 7 PM with a performance by our friend @djfabmusic, who, along with his partner Awer (R.I.P.) from Hip Hop Resistance, was the last to host J Dilla in concert in Paris 2005.

Good donuts will be available, and there will also be a vinyl record stand with the record store @miniwax.club.

Also special LTD edition J DILLA NOTHING LIKE THIS T- Shirts, 555 Olive Alive Oil & surprises will be sold!

Get Ready!

A huge thank you to the talented illustrator @felix_godefroy!
