"I did not know this story." Lara Spencer on Good Morning America this morning. Robin Roberts, fifteen years at ESPN before GMA, hadn't either until this film found her. Michael Strahan had no idea. That is why Robin and Eli Manning put their names on it yesterday.

In 1970 Pat Palinkas became the first woman to play professional football, holding for her husband Steve on the Orlando Panthers. He insisted she be his holder. Other teams wanted her after he got hurt. She said no, I'm just here for my husband. Then her story disappeared for fifty years. Her uniform was sitting in the Pro Football Hall of Fame the whole time.

Women's stories don't get lost because they are small. They get lost because nobody decides they're worth telling. Ashley Brandon found Pat by accident, in a line about the guy who tackled her. That is how close this came to staying buried.

Pat passed away last year. She got to see some of this. Robin mentioned that and I keep coming back to it. I think she'd be pretty keen to see her story live on.

Last week we were at the News & Doc Emmys nominated for our Hurricane Katrina retrospective documentary 20 years later 🎥🏆 I helped build this from the ground up — creative development, concept, booking the talent and voices that brought it to life.

The heart of it was @robinrobertsgma and @rocknrobintv Robin reported in the aftermath and in the years after #Katrina and followed the story through the rebuild. That authenticity through her lens is what made this doc something special.

The holidays looked a bit different this year, but they were, without a doubt, the most joyful of my life. From hiking the steep hills of San Francisco to riding through the rolling countryside of rural Wales (and a wintry foray through The Adirondacks in between), we were enveloped by love and family, the same incredible cadre of humans who have supported me through the season of the greatest change of my life, the most wild and wonderful story I’ll perhaps share here someday (spoiler alert: there is a conscious uncoupling that’s real and possible, that expands hearts and sets them free to pursue the path and the partner they were meant for, and my tribe is proof). For now, though, these: a testament to how it feels to really, truly, finally live your one wild and precious life, to know your deepest self so fully and wholly for the first time, to love and be loved, wildly, equally, in return.

Last Thursday and Friday, we celebrated 15 years of the Athena Center for Leadership, a hub for changemakers with a mission of preparing Barnard students to lead change today and throughout their lives. Members of the Barnard community had an opportunity to attend conversations on a range of topics with accomplished alumnae and deepen connections with the Athena community. Thank you to all who attended!

August (and everything after): rounding out our summer with a celebration of Isadora and Maude / Dodo and Momo, our dynamic duo at 5 and 6 months, plenty of sun upstate and tennis in the city, and a whole lot of happiness.

Marriage is certainly not for the faint of heart - especially not 11 years in, and in our case 18 years since we began dating (I know, holy shit, right?). It takes compromise, humbleness, and choosing each other over everything and everyone else every day. Thank you @chadimoglou for continuing to choose me 😘 I love you with all my heart and soul. On July 1st we moved out of the Park Slope apartment we lived in for 13 memorable years, the space that welcomed us back to New York from London, where we spent our thirties, hosted countless parties with friends, planned a wedding, began a baking business, and brought home two babies. Three weeks later that first baby turned three, and we celebrated him around the carousel in Prospect Park, blocks from our new home five minutes down the same avenue. Days later, the two of us drove to Maine for our annual trip to Uncle @chrisja4, where we celebrated his fellow Leo @therealreni, and I spent a lot of time remembering all the many visits between and around, on the long, short, winding road to here.

At the end of a month like this, full of change, what an absolute joy it is to stare back at my growing Fefe, still the same as he was from the moment he entered our lives, a gentle balm, the one who now holds his sister’s foot for comfort while telling her he loves her “bigger than the whole sky,” who every morning wakes up and asks me “how were your dreams, mama?” then throws his arms around my legs to say “thank you, mama, for making me breakfast!” and every evening dances to Da Doo Ron Ron with his papa, who loves his family, his modes of transportation, his croissants and miso cod, who welled up with tears when we sang to him on his birthday, who already searches for me in the stands to wave at during swim class, whose full body shakes still make my day every single day, my sidekick, my sweet potato, the one who will always be the greatest lesson of my life. What a gift it is to be here now, wherever we are, with him.
