SPECIAL EDITION! International Artist Day is celebrated annually on October 25th to honour artists and their contributions to society and culture. To commemorate the occasion, we have partnered with Iziko Museums of South Africa to celebrate this awareness day on 31 October!

At this special edition workshop, we will explore the use of everyday edible pigments associated with the domestic environment, including ochre, spices, vegetable dyes, and food colouring.

These pigments with be used as painting media, as we consider the use of “domestic pigments through time” in the rock art gallery, and the South African National Gallery. Spaces are limited, so book now!

SPEAKER: ROMANTHA BOTHA

Romantha Botha is a South African documentary filmmaker, former journalist, and digital cultural archivist who works between Johannesburg and London. Through her company, Watchman Productions, she creates work that explores history, identity, language, and power, and asks who gets to tell the story.

She began as a field reporter and producer on national Afrikaans current affairs and investigative journalism programmes before moving behind the camera. She wrote and hosted the Showmax documentary series Sex & Pleasure, which earned a SAFTA nomination, as well as Jou Mase Taal, an Afrikaans docuseries about the lived experiences of Black native speakers. She has also co-produced podcasts, including Dope Black Dads and The Marvyn Harrison Podcast.

For an audience of more than 200k across social media, Romantha turns academic research, archives, and books into short video essays that make colonial history and cultural memory accessible, especially for Africans. Her collaborators include Greenpeace International, Greenpeace Africa, KykNET, and 54 Magazine.

Her TEDxGeorge Women talk in August, The Truth Is…, questioned the promise of the Rainbow Nation and challenged South Africans to recognise the inherited truths about one another that keep them divided and to take responsibility for unlearning them.

She was also named in the prestigious Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans 2026 (Arts, Culture and Entertainment) and is a longlist judge for the British Podcast Awards 2026. Her work is driven by one value: the courage to tell it like it is.

Capturing moments at @tedxgeorge

I don’t always have the latest equipment, and my approach isn’t always the most technical.

But I really care about capturing the moments that no one knows are going to happen.

The hug someone gives their friend after watching them step off stage.

The laughter between people who didn’t know each other a few hours earlier.

Yes, there’s a side to content development where you always have to be curious to improve your skills.

But a big part of capturing special moments through content is actually forgetting about yourself for a moment, forgetting about the trends, and....

Observing the room.
Watching people.
Noticing those little moments that could easily pass you by.

I’m sure when people look back at event content years later, I don’t think it’s my fancy transitions they’ll care about….it’s being able to feel that authentic moment over again.
