AUGUST FIFTH : A year ago, we installed our steel partition - one of eight structures we made in collaboration with the Swiss modular company, USM -on 4.5 empty acres of raw land in New York State. VK, CH and I met the USM truck on a lonely country road and found a flat-ish spot near some west-facing birch trees after hiking inland a bit. There is nothing more heart-racing to me (and us) than the exquisite juxtaposition of wild nature and the precision of working in steel. The exhibition - THE ROOM YOU CARRY - lived at USM on Greene St from last September through the first days of 2026 where we hosted friends inside. I'm now adapting it for someone else - a collector, an archivist, a potter. Be a vessel!

He moved to New York to become a furniture designer. He never became « the designer », he became the CEO.

@theredthunder runs @usmmodularfurniture, the Swiss « Lego of design » you’ve seen in every cool studio (and at your dentist). In this episode: the happy accident that built an icon, how you get furniture into the world’s most beautiful rooms, and the Swiss discipline that beats hustle every time.

A masterclass on taste, patience and playing the long game.

With the end of NYCxDESIGN 2026, the exhibition «Frame in Frame» at WSA New York @wsanyc also came to a close. I would like to thank everyone who made this project possible — above all Panter&Tourron @pantertourron, Ben Ganz @officebenganz, Daan Couzijn @daancouzijn, Elena Bänninger @elenabaenninger and the team at the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York @swisscgny, the film and AV team at WSA, as well as FHNW HGK Basel @hgkbasel_fhnw, Sarah Morris @sarahmorris and the Eames Office @eamesoffice for generously making films available to the exhibition.

Presented for the first time in the United States, «Frame in Frame» brought together more than 200 recently rediscovered experimental films, produced in Switzerland between the 1960s and 90s, that can be seen as early precursors to motion design. Installed by Daan Couzijn across freestanding projection walls, the films entered into dialogue with contemporary design through scenographies by Panter&Tourron and Ben Ganz. Pieces by Vitra @vitra, USM @usmmodularfurniture, Lehni @lehni_furniture and Ruckstuhl @ruckstuhlcarpets became part of the installation.

Open free to the public, the exhibition hosted walkthroughs, additional screenings and discussions, including works by Ch. and R. Eames and Sarah Morris and a panel with Swissnex @swissnexboston moderated by Ruba Abu Nimah @ruba.
Heartfelt thanks also to Elena Bänninger and her team — Teniola Phillipps @te__ni, Maxime Tarasi @bigboimanzi, Nathalie Zwimpfler @nathaliez — alongside Ambassador Niculin Jäger, Rosina Colazzo-Franzese, the comm team, USM (Jon Thorson @theredthunder, Ana Bilski), Vitra (Laura Galu @lauragalu, Sofie Wieghorst @sofierw, Barbara Friedli @barbara.friedli), Ruckstuhl (Adrian Berchtold @adrian_berchtold), Studio Volume @studio__volume, ZHdK @zhdk.campus (Jonas Vögeli @infinityvoegeli Lea N.
