Incredible food and drinks, an amazing DJ, sound baths, beauty stations, tun activities and the most INSANE goodie bag. Honestly, pure heaven! 🛍️ You SPOILT us rotten!

But the best part? THE PEOPLE 🫶🏻

I turned up on my own, not knowing a single person, and left having met so many gorgeous humans. There’s something so special about bringing together people from different walks of life who are passionate about breaking stigma and improving menopause awareness and support.

A HUGE thank you to the incredible Boots team for inviting me, making me feel so welcome and creating such a brilliant space for the menopause community 🥰

One of the BEST events I’ve ever been to. The vibes were PHENOMENAL. My ADHD brain was overstimulated, menopause was adding to the chaos, but honestly? I was having the time of my life!!!

There’s something so beautiful about this Irish saying, isn’t there? And this quote keeps showing itself in various ways lately…

We’ve been hearing from so many women in our MenoMy community who are carrying a heavy load. And if we’re honest, we’ve been feeling it ourselves too. 🦋

Life doesn’t always make sense when you’re in the thick of it. Especially through perimenopause and menopause, when you can feel like you’re trying desperately to understand a whole new ‘version’ of yourself, sometimes whilst trying to hold everything else together, too.

But what if these moments, as painful and difficult as they can be, are also shaping us? Building us? Making us more resilient and more fortified than we ever imagined we could be? ✨

Sometimes, when you’re in the deepest, darkest moments, you simply cannot see what’s waiting around the corner. You can’t see the reason, the lesson or what might eventually come from it.

And that’s okay. You don’t have to have all the answers today.

Sometimes life has a way of shifting, opening doors we never expected and gently reminding us that there is still so much goodness ahead. 🌿

So, if you’re reading this and you’re feeling really low, overwhelmed, or wondering how you’re going to get through it all, please hear this…

🤍 Keep going.
🤍 Keep putting one foot in front of the other.
🤍 Give yourself the same compassion you so freely give to everyone else.

You don’t have to be strong every single day. You don’t have to have it all mapped out. And you certainly don’t have to do it all alone.

Sometimes, getting through today is more than enough.

And if you needed a little reminder of that today, from us to you, well here it is. 🫶🏻

A big thank you to @healthandsafetyacademy for helping us bring heart health for mid-life women to the forefront and offering the ECG, blood pressure, blood tests and CPR training at BEYOND Menopause over the weekend. It was powerful to see how little women and families knew about heart attack, cardiac arrest and CPR.
Don’t take your heart health for granted advocate for yourself and get checked if you have any concerns especially palpitations, breathlessness, high cholesterol, newly experienced feelings of reflux, jaw pain or tightness in the chest - please don’t ignore it.

We’re all about educating, sharing, empowering and supporting women during hormone flux and menopause and heart health is massive.

Please share with anyone you think needs to know about heart health 🙏🏻

What would I tell my 44-year-old self?

Exactly what I’ve said in this video - don’t wait years and years to ask for specialist help, which is exactly what I did.

Sometimes seeing a menopause specialist really can be money well spent. Menopause can bring anxiety, overwhelm and absolute exhaustion, and it can affect your relationships, your children, your partner, your parents, your whole bloody life.

Looking back, I wish I’d had somebody knowledgeable to sit down with me and properly go through what was happening and what my options were.

That’s one of the reasons I’m happy to work with Voy. They’re currently offering a 45-minute online appointment with a British Menopause Society trained specialist, and using my discount code JANE20 brings the appointment down to £79.

For me, having 45 minutes one-to-one, where you can properly discuss your symptoms, concerns and options, can be incredibly valuable, particularly when we know how difficult it can be to fit everything into a standard GP appointment. 😬

Have a look at Voy, do your own research and make up your own mind. It’s your body, your journey and your choice.

But if I could go back and talk to that overwhelmed 44-year-old me?

I’ve had SO many comments from women saying, “If men went through menopause, we wouldn’t be having half the problems we’re having now.”

And it got me thinking… what WOULD happen if men had menopause?

Imagine telling a man……

“Right, your hormones are going to start disappearing. You might not sleep, your joints might hurt, your brain may turn to bloody mush, your libido will disappear, you might suddenly feel anxious for absolutely no reason… and occasionally you’ll want to murder someone because they left an empty toilet roll on the holder.”

“Oh and if we remove your testicles and your hormones suddenly plummet, you might get all of that practically overnight.”

Do we honestly think they’d be told……

“It’s just a natural part of ageing.”

“Come back when it gets worse.”

“Have you tried losing weight?”

“Maybe an antidepressant?”

😂😂😂

I reckon there’d be a Menopause Department in every hospital, appointments within 24 hours and a dedicated bloody hotline.

And hormone replacement would probably arrive by Deliveroo. 🚗

Obviously I’m having a laugh 🤪 but there is a serious point here. 🤔

Women have spent far too long being expected to just put up with symptoms that can completely turn their lives upside down.

So when women say, “If men had menopause, things would be different”…

Mel actually says this is “just the tip of the iceberg” 😵‍💫 and yes, it absolutely is.

Since all the posts about doctors receiving just one hour of menopause teaching, I’ve had a ridiculous number of women commenting in the support groups, and my Instagram has gone into overdrive.

But this isn’t something I’ve only just started talking about. I’ve been banging on about this for the last five years, since I started going once a year to speak to Year 2 medical students at the University of Southampton.

I remember saying to the lecturer, “One hour? Seriously? One hour?” And even she said, “Yeah, I know. It’s not right.” 😳

It’s all very well saying doctors will gain more experience once they’re out there working, but women make up around half the population. Periods, pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, these are things affecting women throughout their lives.

Surely women’s health deserves more than a tiny part of medical education?

We need more training in women’s health, full stop.

Because women deserve the right help, advice and support and if we don’t keep talking about it, making noise and sharing our experiences, how are things ever going to change? 🤷‍♀️

CAN YOU STILL DO THIS? 💪😂
I keep seeing this on Instagram, can you squat right down, feet flat, and get yourself back up again without using your hands?

Obviously I had to give it a go… and YES! 🙌😂

Although I’m convinced years of hovering over public loo seats have contributed to my leg strength! 🤣

Joking aside, since losing three stone, I’ve noticed such a difference in what my body can do. I try to fit in a little strength work with my 2kg and 4kg weights, working on my legs, core and balance. Sometimes it’s literally 10 minutes a day but it all counts.🙌

And especially once you hit 60, you really do realise just how important it is to keep those muscles working. Strength training, particularly for our legs, but for our whole body too, is something I’m really trying to prioritise now. 💪We want to stay strong, mobile and independent as we get older.

I’m now maintaining a healthy weight and, for me personally, I’m using a maintenance dose. If you’re considering weight-loss medication and would like to know more about my experience DM me.

But back to the important question… can YOU get down there and back up without using your hands? 😂🙌

And no injuries trying to prove a point please! 😂💜🙏

“YOU ARE ENOUGH.” 💜

Fabulous words from the lovely late Dolly Parton, and something I think so many women need reminding of.

Part of what I do as a Menopause Support Mentor is offer one-to-one conversations with women who simply need someone to talk to, someone who understands and can offer a little guidance.

I have lived experience. I know what it feels like to feel completely alone. I know how confusing it can be when you don’t know what to ask your GP, what your options are, or even where to start.

Sometimes you just need someone to sit with you, listen, help you make sense of it all and work out what your next step might be.

I’m not medically trained and I’m not here to tell you what you should do. I’m here to support you, share what I’ve learned and help you feel a little less alone.

So if you’re struggling and you need that person…

I’m here. I can be your person. 💜
