I’m excited to be speaking tonight, so I take a minute of meditation by walking through the worlds and words of sizzling truth of those that didn’t make it out alive but left a trail for guys like me to find our way to freedom.

The stories that need to be told will not be about the grit and the grime, the crimes and hard times caused by whatever symptoms we utilized to keep our sensitive souls from being eaten alive by the sad circumstances we were subjected to. We don’t need another book of cowboy stories. Stahl said it all. Bourdain nailed the cross we bear. Burroughs brought the darkness into the light and lit the way for Carroll to show us even Catholic boys don’t have a prayer when the spirit gets downhearted. My story isn’t unique in that regard. I was them. They were me, and the scars speak the same sick truth, so what I want to talk about is- what now?

So many of us that were in a downward spiral are now doing a downward dog searching for relief, but the path to palatable enlightenment will not be on a Pinterest post for the ones that once lived on the wild side. The ones that said “Whaddaya got” when asked what they were rebelling against while leaning on the jukebox of life.

Even Pinero said

I feel like a jerk”

The search for what now begins with this craving to connect, the same way we sat on stoops and screamed from rooftops, except this time, let’s listen to the cries from across the street. That kid is saying the same thing, and together we can sing a song that will finally silence the Hard Time Blues.
