Fall has always been my favorite season, but experiencing it through Alex’s eyes feels like discovering it for the very first time, over and over again. 🍂

We’re exploring so many new places, traveling at a slower pace, and learning to appreciate the little things along the way. Slowing down has been a big adjustment for me, but it’s taught me to take it all in and truly experience each place instead of rushing on to the next.

And experiencing fall to the fullest means being dressed for every adventure! 🤎 I’m so thankful to @thermkids for keeping him warm and cozy through all our fall activities. I’m absolutely obsessed with his current overalls + jacket combo, perfect for layering and letting him explore in all kinds of fall weather.

Here’s to hoping fall last a little longer this year! So we can continue enjoying every single second of it! #newhampshireoutdoors #newhampshirefall #fallhiking

You don’t need perfect weather to make childhood magical. Sometimes you just need the right gear and the willingness to get a little dirty.

🏔️After exploring Mount Rainier, our kids loved having plenty to do right outside our door at Alta Crystal Resort.

It’s mountain getaway that even the non-hikers in your family will love! 😅

Plus the rain didn’t slow us down with the heated outdoor pool, hot tub, and sauna! 🤩

There are hiking trails along the resort for the hikers, fire pits in multiple locations, a big grass field for games, a frisbee golf basket, even some horseshoes and plenty of room for the kids to play!

Sometimes the best part of an adventure is slowing down, enjoying time together, and making memories without a packed schedule. ❤️

The cozy, cabin-style rooms made this such a great home base for our Mount Rainier weekend!

We definitely don’t have parenting figured out. And we are not trying to tell anyone else how to raise their kids.

We are Shannon and Tyson, raising adventurous kids and building a life around more time together, more experiences and showing our kids what’s possible.

After years of taking our kids into the mountains, travelling, trekking for weeks at a time and watching them figure out things we weren’t sure they could do… there are a few things we have come to really believe in.

We believe kids are capable of more than we often give them credit for.

We believe we can comfort them without always removing the hard thing.

We believe complaining doesn’t mean they’re incapable.

We believe being cold, tired, frustrated or uncomfortable sometimes is part of learning what you’re capable of.

And we believe our job isn’t to make our kids’ lives easy. It’s to be there beside them while they learn how to navigate the hard parts.

Our kids have cried on trails. They have wanted to quit. They have been exhausted, sick, cold and completely over it.

And we have listened. We have carried them when they needed it. We have changed plans when we needed to.

But we have also given them the chance to keep going when they were ready.

Because we don’t want to raise kids who think they need to avoid everything that feels hard.

We want them to know they can do hard things, and that we will be right there with them while they do.

If you are raising kids and want to see more of what that can look like, come along.

A fall weekend spent at Mount Rainier with our people does a family good! 🍂🏔️

From hiking at Naches Peak and Suntop, to exploring the stops on highway 410 like Greenwater Collective and Wapiti Outdoors, grabbing burgers at Naches Tavern, and even making our way down to Packwood for dinner…we packed a whole lot of adventure into four days!

And of course, we loved having a close home base at Alta Crystal Resort, where we got to slow down, enjoy the heated pool, sauna, hot tub, and all the little moments in between the adventures. Stu and I also enjoyed hiking around the national Forest from the resort. 🥾

One of our favorite things about fall in Washington is that you really don’t have to go far to have a memorable weekend. Just follow head toward Mount Rainier National Park and stop whenever something catches your eye, and enjoy the ride. 🍁

Mostly, though, we’re grateful for a weekend with all six of us together. ❤️ The hikes, food, exploring and cozy evenings are great… but getting this time together is the real adventure.
