While everyone is raving about Zendaya’s look at The Oddessy premier, we are still excited about the news of #epicthemusical THE MOVIE!

Our interview with @jorge covers Epic’s early pitch rejections, and all the stress and self doubt that came with sharing Epic with the world.

In light of Jorge’s collaboration with Jerry Bruckenheimer, (producer of Pirates of the Carribean and Top Gun!) his story of rejection and resilience feels even more poignoint.

If you’re as excited about the Greek Mythology craze sweeping Hollywood as we are, be sure to check out Jorge’s episode.

July is #DisabilityPrideMonth #StopAbleism #CelebrateDiversity
#Allyship #SpreadKindness

What is disability ?
How many disabled people are there around the world ?
Do you know disabled people in your community ?
Have you talked to them about their experience ?
How can we improve disabled people’s lives ?
What do disabled people need ?
How can able-bodied people be allies ?
How can we actively stop systemic ableism ?

@chronicallyjenni @candy.courn @lilgabid @maxwellmnight @therollingexplorer

Watch the video till the end where @elisesfnd makes a bracelet with the colours of the Disability Pride Flag and explains what each colour means 🙏🌸

Red – Physical impairments and conditions.

Gold – Neurodiversity.

White – Non-visible, and undiagnosed impairments and conditions.

Blue – Emotional and psychiatric conditions, including mental health, anxiety and depression.

Green – Hearing impaired, vision impaired, audio processing and all other sensory impairments and conditions.

Charcoal background – represents people in the community who have experienced ableism, and to protest against this.

Remember that disability is not a bad word. “Disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity which we can take pride in.”

“There’s nothing wrong with disability - it’s society that needs fixing.”

“Through practising disability pride, I've learnt there's nothing wrong with me and I don't have to accept discrimination.” (Paralympian Elizabeth Wright)

Disability Pride Month celebrates the identities, achievements, contributions and experiences of disabled people.

It is a time to challenge stereotypes, raise awareness of disability, champion accessibility and inclusion, and recognise the diversity of disabled communities around the world.

The month also recognises that disabled people still face barriers, including inaccessible environments, assumptions, exclusion and discrimination.

Allyship should go beyond a single month by involving disabled people in decisions, removing barriers and continuing to improve accessibility throughout the year.

Throughout Disability Pride month, I’ll be exploring the different groups represented within the Disability Pride Flag, starting with physical disabilities.

When many people think of disability, physical disability is often what comes to mind. But physical disabilities can look very different from person to person.

Some of us have been disabled for as long as we can remember. Others become disabled later in life. Some of us have experienced both. Some people use wheelchairs, mobility aids or adaptations. Some don’t. Some need a lot of support in daily life, while others are more independent. Neither experience is more or less valid.

One thing many physically disabled people have in common is that the biggest barriers we face often aren’t our bodies. They’re inaccessible environments, systems and attitudes.

Many disabled people are underestimated, but needing support doesn’t make someone less capable or less valuable.

For a long time, disabled people were taught to hide, minimise or apologise for our differences. Disability Pride is about rejecting that shame and recognising disability as a natural part of human diversity.

There’s no single way to look, live or experience disability.

Follow along as we explore more of the disability communities represented within the Disability Pride Flag and let me know which group you'd like to learn about next in the comments!

Huge thank you to @therollingexplorer @lilgabid and @maxwellmnight for being part of this collaboration.

Congratulations to Syanne Centeno for being named a @forbes Disabled Leader for Disability Pride Month!

So well deserved, and we loved the chat @syannebloom and @therollingexplorer had in Season 2 (episode 4), where they covered personal growth, unlearning, the healing power of art, the important of her marriage and the challenges of maintaining hope as a political activist in the USA.

Access Denied with Jessica Jordan Ping is a podcast focused on overcoming rejection, and the part rejection often plays on the road to success.

Disability Pride Month, its history, its meaning, and why invisible disabilities matter 💙🫧

VD: a cutout of Rachel, a brown and pink haired white woman is on top of a blue background with bubbles. The text on top says Disability Pride Month, its history, its meaning, and why invisible disabilities matter 💖🫧

What is disability pride month?💛

VD: a picture of rachel at the white house with a yellow overlay. The text on top says “what is disability pride month?” “Every July, Disability Pride Month recognizes the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990. It is a time to honor disabled identity, reject shame, and recognize the civil rights protections the ADA provides. Source: National Archives; ADA.gov

Where it started🤍

VD: A white slide with a black and white picture featuring disability activists at the first disability pride parade in 1990. The text states: The first Disability Pride Day was held in Boston in 1990. The first U.S. Disability Pride Parade took place in Chicago in 2004. In 2015, New York City officially declared July as Disability Pride Month, marking the ADA’s 25th anniversary. Source: https://news.stonybrook.edu/university/july-is-disability-pride-month”

Invisible Disabilities❤️

VD: a red background with a picture of rachels legs in a hospital blanket and red grippy socks. The text states: “Invisible Disabilities. Not all disabilities are visible. Millions of Americans live with conditions that can limit daily life, including chronic pain, mental illness, autoimmune conditions, ADHD, and more.” “Source: Source: CDC; Harvard Health”

The Gap💚

VD: a picture of rachel with green hair taking a picture in the mirror with a pink phone. She is in workout gear with headphones on looking drained. Text overlayed says “The Gap: For decades, disability rights activism focused heavily on physical access such as ramps and parking. In 1977, activists led Section 504 sit-ins, and in 1990 the Capitol Crawl helped push the ADA forward. Invisible disabilities were often left out of those early public conversations.”
