More than three decades in Connecticut, but hailing from Alexander Village, Georgetown, Guyana, where her father was known as “the puri man,” she carries a family food tradition forward in Hartford.

Today, his daughter continues that legacy through The Rolling Roti Food Truck, proudly serving Guyanese food and flying the Golden Arrowhead every day. 🇬🇾

For Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, those aren’t just places to eat. They’re part of what makes Hartford feel like home.

As we approach the West Indian Day Parade, Caribbean culture is often celebrated through music, flags, and food. But the story doesn’t end when the parade is over.

It continues in cities like Hartford, where immigrant communities open businesses, preserve traditions, and help shape the places they now call home.

Home isn’t always where you’re born.

Sometimes, it’s where your culture is celebrated, your neighbors become family, and your future takes root.

One of my favorite parts of exploring Connecticut is realizing that Caribbean cuisine isn’t one thing—every country brings something different to the table!

This time I stopped by @therollingroti for a chicken curry roti, goat curry roti, and a veggie cook-up!

The meats were incredibly tender, the roti was pillow soft and made fresh to order, and now I already have a reason to come back because I want their lo mein, bake and other authentic Guyanese staples!!

Hartford’s first ever Long Weekend Celebration absolutely understood the assignment!

America’s Potluck was the ULTIMATE vibe. From the live music, to amazing performances and a food lineup that had us going back for more!

You already know we had to try the viral Butter Chicken Gordita Crunch from @thepakitaco, some serious flavor from @therollingroti, and a perfect cafecito from @hastaluegofriend_ to keep the energy up!
